Running out of date night spots in NYC? HollywoodLife.com checked out Ristorante Asellina connected to the swanky Gansevoort Park Hotel in the Flatiron District, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is the newest ultra-chic venue of The ONE Group, most famous for high profile venues like STK, the Collective, Tenjune and Bagatelle’s Turks & Caicos location. The sleek yet somewhat rustic interior with it’s draw-dropping architecture, is a hidden gem in the NYC restaurant scene. Plus, you’re bound to see a famous face or two while enjoying your meal.
The menu was created by Executive Chef Marco Porceddu who hails all the way from Sardinia, perfect for creating some authentic Italian cuisine with a modern twist. He spent eight years at Francesco in Las Vegas perfecting his nouveau-Italian dishes and he has perfected his unbelievable meals for a menu that will have you wanting everything!
My date and I started with the Stuffed Cerignola Olives ($12) and for someone who isn’t a fan of olives, I can tell you I loved them! I can officially call myself an olive lover now, well only if I can eat it the way Marco makes them! The Imported Cheeses with toasted pecan, berries and chestnut honey ($17) went perfectly with our wine and the Ahi Tune Tartare with robiola cheese and black truffle ($17) was my absolute favorite!
Next came more food than one could consume over an entire week but it was absolutely scrumptious! I’m pretty sure I inhaled everything but at some point I reached a state of pure food coma. My date loved the Garganelli, 3 meat ragù with wild fennel and pecorino sardo ($22) while I, the seafood lover, had a feast of Saffron Strozzapreti with shrimp, zucchini and brandy sauce ($24). But that’s not all, I even tried the Black Ink Tagliatelle, complete with clams, calamari, scallops and bottarga ($26). Yes, it really was unbelievable!
Although we were both stuffed, we left room for the most important part of the meal — dessert! We enjoyed Cheese Cake with lemon sorbetto ($10), Warm Chocolate Cake with vanilla gelato ($11), and Gelati e Sorbetti ($9).
The entire night couldn’t have been more perfect. With the great music playing 80s to Top 40 hits, the incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff — it’s my favorite NYC restaurant now! I will make sure to keep coming back to Asellina and you must make sure you try it the next time you’re in NYC!
