Adam Harrington plays Ethan Conant on ‘The Secret Circle’ and he chatted with us about the appearance of crystals in upcoming episodes and about how ‘TSC’ witchcraft compares to the witchcraft in ‘The Vampire Diaries’
The presence of influential crystals played a big part of the Secret Circle books the new CW series is based on. However, if you’ve seen the first episode, which airs tomorrow and is already available on iTunes, there are no crystals to be seen! So what gives? When are they appearing? Actor Adam Harrington, who plays character Adam Conant’s father Ethan in the series, opened up to us at the 2011 PaleyFest Fall TV Preview and spoke about crystals and witchcraft.
“The crystals will appear fairly soon in the series!” he exclaimed, assuring us they are “definitely” a presence throughout the season. In fact, the new — and totally trippy — promo showed us a quick glance at a big crystal being held.
Adam — who revealed he’s always wanted the magical ability to move stuff with his mind — explained how he prepared to play a witch. “For me personally, I kind of let the script tell me what witchcraft was. I think with a show like this you are finding out so much as you go along, because when you enter a world like this, I think audiences will feel that anything can happen. Because really anything can happen! Even for us, and I think the less I knew the better.”
The show has been toted as the next Vampire Diaries, and Adam says he very much respects the other L.J. Smith CW series. “I definitely have watched the show, I have always been impressed with the show throughout the seasons. I was always impressed with the writing. I think it’s wonderfully acted.”
But Adam doesn’t see them as totally similar. “I feel that [they are] two different worlds, I think even with witchcraft within Vampire Diaries it’s still a completely different world. I think it’s a different witchcraft in Secret Circle.”
Speaking to Adam, as well as our interview with Phoebe Tonkin, has us even more excited for the new series to officially kick off!
