The test requires only a blood sample from the mother’s arm and the analysis of DNA found in her bloodstream will help doctors determine the possibility of premature birth! How amazing is this?
Scientists have found that 80 percent of premature births can be spotted early using the new test in the second trimester of pregnancy. This will help moms-to-be know if they are high risk or if they will give birth prematurely. Would you take the test?
The test, which will go on sale in America next year, shows three new peptides or compounds in the blood of pregnant women, which can help determine the possibility of premature birth and save the lives of thousands of babies.
Eight out of ten women in the lab experiment, who tested positive for these compounds, went on to have premature births. Also, researchers in Utah tested blood samples from 160 pregnant women at between 24 and 28 weeks, half of whom went on to give birth early.
“With pre-term birth, if we could even prolong a pregnancy by one or two weeks, we could make a very big impact on the number of babies that survive and make sure that those that survive are healthy,” lead author of the study Dr. Sean Esplin, an obstetrician and professor of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Utah tells the Daily Mail. “With just one intervention, we could have a really huge impact.”
