Justin Timberlake has romanced some pretty big stars in Hollywood, including Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel. But although those relationships were long-term, in the end, they didn’t last. And Justin admits his parents might be to blame.
“My parents divorced when I was three. I’m humbly and honestly finding out that I have a lot of issues with that,” Justin tells Elle magazine.
“I’m finding more and more that… I’m going to break the chain because that’s what you want to do, break the chain of your parents. But at some point, it’s in your blood and you have a thing that happens and you’re like, ‘Holy s**t, my parents did that.'”
And although Justin insists he was never short of love and attention from either his mom or dad, their divorce opened his eyes to bigger issues concerning the connection between a parent and child.
“I read something somewhere where the first three years of a child’s life are the most important for the parents and the child’s connection, and right around there, as soon as my parents had me, they divorced,” Justin explains.
“But at the age of five, I did see a man come into my life, my stepfather, and show me the value of stepping in and really being a man and falling in love with a woman, and bearing the responsibility of being a father figure to her son,” he adds. “All of my parents are great.”
