There’s nobody grieving more about Amy Winehouse‘s death than her family. Her father Mitch, who has released a statement saying Amy was at her happiest when she died, gave a heartfelt eulogy today at her funeral in London. He gave his speech amongst 200 mourners who came to pay their respects to the singer.
“Goodnight my angel. Sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much,” said Mitch at the close of his eulogy. Family spokesman Chris Goodman says, “Mitch was funny, he told some jokes about her childhood and how headstrong she was. A lot of the family members recognized the stories and laughed along. Mitch stressed many times that she was happier now than she had been in many years. He spoke a lot about her fantastic recovery […] In the days before her death she told Mitch she was very happy, satisfied and content in her life.”
Janis, Amy’s mother, didn’t do a eulogy. After Mitch’s emotional speech the crowd said a few final prayers before leaving in tears. Kelly Osbourne and Mark Ronson were also in attendance.
It’s devastating to lose a child, and our hearts are with Mitch, Janis, and the rest of Amy’s family and friends in this difficult time.
