Sure, the proceeds went to charity — but would YOU pay that much for her wacky hat?
The final numbers are in: Princess Beatrice‘s outrageous silk-bow hat was sold for a staggering $131,648 through an eBay auction this weekend, with all proceeds going to UNICEF and Children in Crisis.
The world first fell in love with the hilarious head-piece when Beatrice, 22, wore it to Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding April 29.
HollywoodLife.com recently chatted with the hat’s designer, Philip Treacy, who summed up his thoughts on both Beatrice and Princess Eugenie‘s hats:
“My inspiration was beauty and elegance it’s a 21st century royal wedding. … They didn’t tell me [what they wanted] because I’ve known them for a long time and I wanted them to look gorgeous and beautiful. They trusted me to make them. Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation … I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn’t.”
