Now that Katie’s gig at CBS is over — could she turn up at the ‘Today’ show’s bitter rival?
Katie Couric is popping up all over the place. The highest paid news anchor will make her final appearance as the host of CBS’ Evening News with Katie Couric on May 19 and then she’ll hop right across Manhattan to the Good Morning America studios in Times Square to start a new gig, reports the New York Post.
“GMA sees Meredith Vieira leaving [Today] as a huge opportunity,” a source says . “Katie will be one of the ways ABC could take advantage.”
Not only will Katie be making “guest appearances” there is a deal reportedly being negotiated by ABC execs to give Katie her own daytime syndicated talk show.
This comes right on the heels of Meredith’s announcement on May 9 that she will be leaving the Today Show this June.
Ironically, Meredith was brought on NBC’s Today Show in September 2006 to replace Katie after she stepped down from her 14 years as co-anchor alongside Matt Lauer.
So for Katie to go to NBC’s arch-rival ABC and do “guest appearances” that will be in direct ratings competition against her former bestie Matt and Meredith’s successor Ann Curry is almost like a slap in the face!
