After a nearly decade-long manhunt, Al Qaeda leader and terrorist mastermind Osama Bin Laden is dead, The New York Times reports.
The death took place during military procedures in Islamabad, Pakistan. Osama was 54 and his body has been buried at sea.
President Obama confirmed the death during a press conference late on May 1.
“For over two decades, Bin Laden has been Al Qaeda’s leader and symbol,” President Obama said. “The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat Al Qaeda. But his death does not mark the end of our effort. We must and we will remain vigilant at home and abroad.”
We’re so glad Osama’s reign of terror is over — we just wish it hadn’t taken so long to find him!
