The funny girls have teamed up to write and co-star in their own film, Groupies. We can’t wait!
Isla Fisher, 35, was so frustrated waiting for a new comedic role to come along that she decided to write her own script. And to make it even better, she called on the hilarious Amy Poehler, 39, to help her out. What a team! Mom power!
“After Wedding Crashers I was just surprised as to the lack of comedic female material there is,” Isla says. “So I had to start working and getting stuff out there for myself.” And considering her hubby is the daring and hysterical Sacha Baron Cohen, who created Borat, we’re pretty sure the script is awesome.
Isla, who has a 3-year-old daughter Olive, gave birth to a baby girl named Elula this past summer and coincidentally, her co-star Amy, who has a 2-year-old son Archie, had a baby boy named Abel in August. The moms will appear as rock groupies in the movie, which they will also executive produce.
“Groupies is pretty close to being ready and I’ve got another movie called Life Coach which I’ve been working on,” Isla says. “Hopefully one of them will go soon. It’s more frustrating being in development than it is just to be cast in something. It’s a lot of things involved.”
Isla has a lot of experience with writing — she has written two novels! Now that’s impressive.
“I’m not writing trashy chick lit anymore,” she explains. “I wrote Groupies with Amy Poehler and since then, I developed another project. So, I’m still being creative and moving more into production, and making sure I have a little bit more power and control over my career.”
Good for you, Isla! And we can’t wait to hear more about Groupies.
