We were incredibly shocked when Justin didn’t take home a Grammy, but we’re so proud of him for being a gentleman and introducing himself to Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding!
You might believe Justin Bieber was robbed at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 13, but he couldn’t have been more gracious! Justin was nominated in two categories at the Grammys, and we were sure he’d take home the award for Best New Artist, but jazz chanteuse Esperanza Spalding blindsided us all by winning instead! Even though Justin was visibly upset and even admitted it to MTV backstage, he decided to track Esperanza down and congratulate her!
“I had no clue what was going to happen,” Justin said. “I worked really hard these past few years and you know, I’m not going to lie — I was disappointed. But, you know, I’m gonna come back [next year] and we’ll take a few home.”
At the very moment Justin revealed he’d never met Esperanza, she walked right by him, so he took his mic off and went to introduce himself and congratulate her!
Justin even took to his Twitter right after the show to let his fans know he’s okay!
“Someone said to me tonight it’s not your successes that define you but your failures,” Justin tweeted. “I lost … but I don’t plan on this being my last chance.”
In case you were still worried about our Bieber, he made sure to tell MTV that his fans shouldn’t be sad.
“I’m inspired to work harder than I did last year,” Justin added. “It’s going to be hard, but I’m going to try. Bieber fans, don’t get too upset. Be happy.”
