Kelly Bensimon Advises: Don't Worry If You Gain Weight When You're Pregnant — I Gained 50 lbs!

I used to model and people think that models just snap back after having a baby, but it’s not really true.

When I was pregnant with my first daughter, Sea, now 12, I was so excited to be pregnant, I just took time off from everything. Same with my daughter Teddy, now 10.

No exercise, I really enjoyed myself. I ate whatever I wanted. I took the vitamins I was supposed to. It’s nine months when you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. It’s nine months when you are actually a vehicle for someone else’s life. It has nothing to do with you. It’s actually the most selfless time because you’re doing everything for someone else.

I gained 50 lbs.with both children. I was huge. I had skinny arms and legs and a huge belly. I couldn’t move. I was sick the entire time. I couldn’t brush my teeth any more, the taste of toothpaste made me bananas…

But strangely, that didn’t stop me from eating. And it’s funny — before I was pregnant, I was a vegetarian, and the minute I got pregnant, I couldn’t get enough steak.

The result — both my daughters were hearty children. They were both 8.7 or 8.8lbs. at birth — a healthy size.

Anyway, I didn’t snap back, but I did lose the weight. So don’t worry about it, if you gain. You can lose it. The most important thing is to have a healthy pregnancy !
