There is a lot of speculation going on about Taylor Swift‘s new song and who she could be talking about. HollywoodLife.com came across a video of her explaining the song and why she wrote it.
“There are a million different opinions and a million different people,” Taylor says. “I get it that not everyone is going to like everything you do. And I get that no matter what, you are going to be criticized for something. But I also get there are different kinds of ways to criticize someone. There is constructive criticism, there is professional criticism and there’s just being mean.”
So true, Taylor! How many times can you think back to someone just being mean to you and maybe even you being too harsh.
“There is a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person, and there is one guy, man, who just crossed the line over and over again,” she continues. “Just being mean. This happens no matter what you do, no matter how old you are, no matter what your job is… there is always going to be someone who is just mean to you. And dealing with that is all you can control and how you handle it. This song is about how I handle it.”
To every guy who will ever encounter Taylor in the future — NEVER do anything to her you wouldn’t want people to know about. She WILL write a song! She might not use names, but speculation can be just as bad!
So who do you think crossed that line and was mean to Taylor? Watch out Ashley Greene — Taylor may be talking about your current bo Joe Jonas!
And here are all the lyrics to Taylor Swift’s new song, “Mean”:
You, with your words like knives and swords and weapons that you use against me
you have knocked me off my feet again, got me feeling like i’m nothing
you, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard, calling me out when i’m wounded
you, picking on the weaker man
well you can take me down, with just one single blow
but you don’t know, what you don’t know
Chorus: someday i’ll be living in a big old city, and all you’re ever gonna be is mean
someday, i’ll be, big enough so you can’t hit me, and all you’re ever gonna be is mean
why you gotta be so mean?
you, with your switching sides, and your wildfire lies, and your humiliation
you have pointed out my flaws again, as if i don’t already see them
i walk with my head down, try to block you out cause i’ll never impress you
i just wanna feel okay again
i bet you got pushed around, somebody made you cold
but the cycle ends right now
cause you can’t lead me down that road
and you don’t know, what you don’t know
Chorus
and i can see you years from now in a bar
talking over a football game
with that same big loud opinion, but nobody is listening
washed up and ranting about the same old big tired things
drunk and rumbling on about how i can’t sing
but all you are is mean
all you are is mean and a liar
and pathetic
and alone in life
and mean, and mean, and mean, and mean
Chorus
