Bachelor Pad host Melissa Rycroft was totally surprised to discover that she was pregnant, just months after marrying Tye Strickland in December — she thought she just had indigestion!
“I took 15 [pregnancy] tests just to make sure,” admits mom-to-be Melissa Rycroft, in the new issue of OK!. Still not convinced that she and husband, insurance salesman Tye Strickland, had actually conceived, the former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader called her doctor to see if maybe it was just something she ate! “She just kept laughing and said I was definitely pregnant,” says the host of Bachelor Pad and former Dancing With the Stars contestant.
Once the shock wore off, the newlyweds realized how lucky they were. “We knew we wanted to have kids. Timing-wise it’s just coming sooner [rather] than later,” says Melissa, 27, who dated Tye for two years before splitting and then reunited with him after she got dumped by her fiancé Jason Mesnick on The Bachelor.
She says she didn’t even know the first thing about bringing home a baby. “Everything scared me about being a new mom. I don’t even know how to use half of those baby gadgets or how to decipher what different baby cries mean.” Sound familiar, HollyMoms?
One aspect of pregnancy that Melissa does have a handle on is her diet. “I like plain toast now, plain bagels and fruit. Normally I can’t eat the same thing every day but lately these core foods just keep me so happy and content,” shares Melissa, adding that she does occasionally give in to her cravings for pizza. “I’m not going to deprive myself. But it doesn’t mean I’m going to be eating pizza all day long and letting myself gain an uncontrollable amount of weight. This is a time when I need to be aware of what my body wants, because it is not just about me anymore,” she tells OK!.
Luckily, Melissa has a great partner sticking by her side. “Tye wants a girl who will have him wrapped around her fingers,” shares Melissa. Regardless of the baby’s sex, Tye is already very protective of his growing bundle of joy. “He won’t even let me cross the street anymore without walking in front of me. I can’t imagine what he’ll be like once the munchkin is here!”
