Although we lost another dancer to an injury on So You Think You Can Dance, one underdog contestant finally gave a star-making performance – and HollywoodLife.com was there to witness it in person!
I can’t believe we’re almost down to the wire on So You Think You Can Dance this year! It was a shame to see Billy Bell sit out on last night’s show due to a knee injury, but the show itself was pretty epic as it celebrated its 150th episode – mostly because I was in shock when contestant Adechike Torbert FINALLY won me over!
Adechike’s star finally rose in an emotionally charged hip-hop performance alongside all-star Comfort Fedoke. The two were so into the dance that Adechike finished in tears; the judges all agreed it was like watching a film. The contemporary dancer from Brooklyn was also part of another dramatic routine, the show’s first same-sex paso doble with b-boy Jose Ruiz. Although that dance didn’t get nearly as good feedback as the hip-hop, it was entertaining.
The series also presented its first stepping routine, performed by Kent Boyd and all-star tWitch, (who served as Billy’s replacement). I personally felt like it could have been stronger, but Kent should be given mad props for really stepping out of his comfort zone.
To celebrate the 150th episode of So You Think You Can Dance, Kenny Ortega, who directed the High School Musical movies and worked with Michael Jackson on his This is It tour, was on hand to serve as a guest judge. He looked very chummy with all the judges as they danced in their chairs before the show started. After the cameras stopped rolling, a cake was brought out in celebration of the show’s milestone.
Some very special guest stars were also in the audience to help So You Think You Can Dance celebrate: we spotted Glee stars Amber Riley and Jenna Ushkowitz in the green room before they headed inside the studio for the show. Injured contestant Alex Wong, whose leg is now in a cast following his Achilles’ tendon surgery last week, was seated with the first eliminee of the season, Alexie Agdeppa. Kherington Payne, a season 4 finalist-turned-Pussycat Doll, was also in the house to enjoy the festivities and the performances.
Now that the top dancers are hurt, who do YOU think should win So You Think You Can Dance?!
