Crystal Bowersox and her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze are in the finale on American Idol — but why would these two pals have a beef?
You called it, America! You’ve long predicted a Crystal Bowersox/Lee DeWyze showdown in the season finale, and last night you were proved right when sexy Casey James got the boot. But why would these two BFFs — who seemed genuinely stoked that they’d be facing off against one another — ever dislike the other?
It all went down with the flip of a coin. Following the results show May 19, Lee, Crystal and Ryan pre-taped the coin toss which determines the order in which the Idols perform on the May 25 finale. Mama Sox won, and chose to go second…but not without worrying that her friend (who clearly wanted to go second himself) was going to be upset with her decision.
“Are you going to hate me?” the 24-year-old Elliston, Ohio native worried. “You’re going to hate me.”
Lee, also 24, shrugged. “You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,” the Prospect, Illinois- born guitarist responded, looking totally displeased by his pal’s choice.
Crystal definitely held true to the statement she made during the show (“I want to win this!”), and despite bugging her buddy, chose the coveted second slot, the memorable spot.
What else did you miss besides the competitive drama between Crystal and Lee if you only saw this on TV? 27-year-old Casey took a page out of Tim Urban’s goodbye book, and actually looked HAPPY to be booted from the show. After the cameras stopped rolling, he was still smiling and just seemed grateful to have had the experience — which actually made me like him that much more. Natch, Kara Dioguardi used the cougar card and lingered with Casey before he left the Idol stage for good, patting him on the back SEVERAL times to show him she’d miss his face. Jealous!
All the Idols — and I do mean ALL — Siobhan Magnus, Didi Benami, Michael Lynche, Tim Urban, Aaron Kelly, Paige Miles, Andrew Garcia and Lacey Brown, as well as judges Kara, Ellen DeGeneres and Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest all joined in singing Fox President of Alternative Entertainment Mike Darnell a happy 48th birthday before the show. But where was Simon Cowell during the festivities? Yep, exactly…with only two more episodes of Idol left, it seems like he’s already gone. Ryan, 35, actually addressed the Brit’s absence, asking, “Where’s Simon? He’s painting his shirt on.”
Fans were disappointed — one girl even cried! — upon discovering that Justin Bieber’s performance was actually pre-taped. The tricky little Biebster shot his performance months ago but tweeted about it as if he was going to perform live! Those same ladies seemed to dig Perez Hilton’s new discovery, Travis Garland, as well. Travis’ taped his gig right before the actual live taping so that audience members could still hear him live, but the gig ran later in the show.
But back to Perez Hilton. The judges — including Simon, this time — were all over his junk! They swarmed him during commercial break and nodded at everything that came out of his mouth. Perhaps it was because he offered to take Simon’s spot next season for FREE? Or because they don’t want any nasty items about themselves written on Perezhilton.com? Hm.
