What is going on?! I realize the housewives of Franklin Lakes, N.J., are proud of their kids, but they’re acting like stage mothers who force their children to fulfill their own broken dreams!
I’ve been waiting all year for the second season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey so I could watch all the craziness that encompasses these opionated, Italian beauties — BUT the second episode which aired last night, May 11, was very disappointing.
I spent an hour watching the housewives parade their daughters around like little show ponies. The show’s villain, Danielle Staub, had some very exciting news: Her daughter Christine, 15 was signed to the mega NYC modeling agency IMG. We agree this is HUGE news, but did we need to spend more than half the episode watching Christine pose for her Daily magazine cover shoot?!
Danielle wasn’t the only NJ mommy that couldn’t wait to show off her mini-me. Teresa Giudice seems to only talk about her eldest daughter Gia, 9 and how amazing she is. We literally watched Gia walk back and forth, practicing her “model walk” for her gig as child model for NYC’s 2010 Fashion Week about six times.
OK, these mothers are proud, and rightfully so. But I felt like I was watching a fused episode of Ed McMahon‘s Star Search and TLC‘s Toddlers & Tiaras. It’s almost turning into a “my daughter is better than your daughter” kind of thing.
Meanwhile, Caroline Manzo has her hands full dealing with her kids. On last night’s episode, her son Albie, 23 and daughter Lauren, 21, got into a food fight (specifically a “ham fight”) in their kitchen. They were literally throwing cold cuts around until Caroline walked in and straight-up regulated. “There’s nothing good about the ham game; there’s nothing funny about the ham game; there’s nothing responsible about the ham game,” she scolded.
And, of course, Caroline and Dina‘s quiet, mousey sister-in-law, Jacqueline Laurita, spent the last half of her portion of the episode crying and arguing with her daughter Lauren, 20, because she’s out all hours of the night partying and drinking with her much older boyfriend.
Last night was a tornado filled with the drama of the “Real Kids of NJ” so lets hope next week’s episode is filled with some adult cat fights instead of ham fights.
