Angelina Jolie is in Haiti visiting children injured by the disastrous earthquake in Haiti.
Angelina Jolie flew to Haiti Feb.9 to visit the victims of the devastating 7.0 earthquake that hit Haiti Jan. 12. Angelina is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, and during her two day visit she has been comforting the local children. She told the Haitians her primary reason for the trip is to “listen and to learn.” So far Angelina has visited hospitals and orphans who lost their families during the earthquake. Despite having adopted three out of her own six children she made it clear that adoption isn’t the main way to help Haiti. “New adoptions should definitely not be encouraged as an immediate response to the emergency.” Angie stopped by tented hospitals in Port-au-Prince, the main area affected by the disaster. She became emotional while detailing her encounters with some of the young victims, “I was struck by the strength and spirit of the Haitian people,” she said. “Children as young as nine months old were coping with amputations with extraordinary resilience.” Angelina and Brad Pitt donated $1 million to Doctors Without Borders for Haiti earthquake relief.
