Betty Suarez! We will miss you terribly!
With consistently declining ratings over the past few seasons, ABC announced Jan. 27 that it will not be renewing its award-winning comedy, Ugly Betty, for a fifth season.
“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty‘s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” ABC chief Steve McPherson said in a statement. “We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
The ugly duckling-not-turned-swan show stars 25-year-old actress America Ferrera (who won both the 2007 Golden Globe and SAG Award for her role) as Betty — a 20-something who just doesn’t fit into the fashion plate mold at her high-fashion magazine job — and has been considered a major stepping stone in portraying the under-represented Hispanic population on the small screen.
Luckily, there’s a silver lining to this news: America told HollywoodLife.com recently she’d love to work with her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star Blake Lively again, but couldn’t because of contract restrictions.
Well, America, at least one of your worries is over!
