Chris Brown‘s highly anticipated interview finally aired on ABC’s 20/20 last night — and we think Chris really stepped it up! He really does care about Rihanna and it came through loud and clear. “I was wrong for what I did,” Chris told Robin Roberts. “And I would definitely say it’s not something that I look past or look over. It’s something that’s really touchy. And like I said, I’m really sorry for what went down and what happened.”
Chris said one of the hardest parts about the aftermath of the attack was that he didn’t feel he was ever really able to speak from his heart. His PR team was so busy doing damage control that they pretty much silenced his voice:
“I had a week, maybe three days of PR, and they told me, ‘Don’t say this’ and ‘Don’t say it this way, ’cause they’re gonna take it this way,’ ” Chris said. “So in my head, I wasn’t given a chance to really be me. I was being myself through other people. It was genuinely from me, it just wasn’t projected genuinely.”
But the most touching part of the interview was when Chris talked about “Changed Man,” a song off his upcoming album Graffiti. As the name implies, the song is an apology to Rihanna — and Chris said she cried the first time she heard it! “She knows how sorry I am,” he said. “She’s heard the song. I played it for her, the day I [wrote it]. She cried when she first heard the song.”
Chris, if you’re really being honest and sincere, just give it time and everything will turn out right.
