Alexa Ray Joel “Depressed About Her Career And Love Life,” Says A Family Insider
Possible reasons behind her alleged suicide attempt!

As Alexa Ray Joel recovers from a reported drug overdose today, a source close to the Joel family tells HollywoodLife.com that stress and unhappiness may have contributed to her dire actions. “She’s been very depressed over the past year — mostly connected to her career and love life,” the insider tells us. “She wanted to be a big star like her dad … get her career going. It’s a lot of pressure.”
She released a six-song EP in 2006 titled Sketches, but never gained the momentum in her career she had hoped for. It’s currently listed at #25,454 in music sales on Amazon.com. As for her love life, Alexa’s last known boyfriend was Jimmy Riot, the bassist in her band. The two dated from 2006 to 2007. In Dec. 2006, Alexa told Glide magazine all about him: “I have a wonderful bass player… He’s actually my boyfriend. He’s great and he’s stuck with me for the longest amount of time.” But since their break up, Alexa has been extremely frustrated with the dating world.
New York’s Daily News points out public admissions of Alexa’s depression. In August, she wrote a post on her MySpace blog in which she set her mood as “forgotten” and proceeded to vent about how frustrated she was with dating. “I don’t like dating!!! Wish I could be in a relationship again without having to date,” she wrote. “I HATE going out!! I’m a homebody and a workaholic… I don’t like going out and drinking to meet men!!! I always have to drag myself out the door to get up the motivation to go out, and when I do go out, I don’t meet anybody!!! … I live in the greatest city in the world and I can’t seem to meet an interesting guy who also happens to be NICE.”
It sounds like Alexa had a lot more pain than anyone really knew about.
