When three figure skaters take their final bow on that podium on Feb. 20, one of them could very well be 15-year-old Californian Polina Edmunds. Polina was more than solid in her short form debut on Feb. 19, earning enough points to leave her in serious medal contention for the big finale.

Poor Yulia! At the young age of 15, she is competing in her first Olympics ever. While many had high expectations, the skater landed in only fifth place on Feb. 19, after a shocking fall during the short program!

Yulia Lipnitskaya still impressed when she took the ice in her first ever run as a solo act at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. The young skater from Russia scored only a 65.23, though, after taking a tragic fall during her triple flip at the end of her routine. See the shocking fall here.

Ted Ligety: American Wins Gold Medal In Olympic Giant Slalom

Ted made his Olympic mark on Feb. 19, winning the gold medal in the giant slalom event and becoming only the second American in history to win two Olympic gold medals in skiing.

In a sport that measures results by the hundreds of a second, Ted Ligety destroyed his competition in Sochi, winning gold in the giant slalom and beating Steve Missillier of France, who won silver, by 0.48 seconds. Ted was ahead of bronze medalist Alexis Pinturault of France by 0.64 seconds.

Olympic legacy skier Lyman Currier faced a tragic end to his Sochi games on Feb. 18, as the 19-year-old fell and injured his knee on the difficult halfpipe course.

Lyman Currier — the son of former Olympian David Currier, who competed in the 1972 Games — had high hopes going into the big debut of the Olympic halfpipe skiing event on Feb. 18, but snowy, treacherous conditions led to a potentially serious injury.

Pussy Riot — Russian Protest Band Arrested At Sochi Olympics

Less than two months after being released from prison for protesting Vladimir Putin’s regime in 2012, two members of the Russian protest band Pussy Riot were detained in Sochi on Feb. 18 in connection with a theft that occurred in their hotel.

Pussy Riot‘s Maria Alyokhina, 25, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 24, found themselves in trouble again on Feb. 18, when they were detained in Sochi due to theft at their hotel. However, the band is telling a much different story when it comes to the reasoning behind their arrest.

Every ’90s child remembers ‘Cool Runnings’ and its eternally catchy ‘Jamaica, We Have A Bobsled Team’ theme song, and now the 2014 Sochi team has created a brand new funky reggae jam for future generations to treasure.

Marvin Dixon and Winston Watts may not have medaled — or even come close — during the Winter Olympics, but the Jamaican bobsled team are still major winners for carrying on the Cool Runnings tradition of debuting a rockin’ theme song for the games.
