Remember when Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) kissed back in January, and New Girl fans lost their friggin’ minds? Well, the couple’s huge moment on the April 30 episode pretty much blew that lip lock out of the water — and into the bedroom.

The episode revealed how the friends lost their virginities — shout-out to Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien for snagging Jess’s — but the real “holy crap” moment came from the events of the present, rather than the gang’s reflection on the past.

Nick & Jess Finally Have Sex On ‘New Girl’

Yes, Nick and Jess finally bumped uglies, though there was nothing ugly about it. In fact, the Twitterverse couldn’t have been more pleased — nor more squee-ful — with the way Jake and Zoey portrayed the highly anticipated act.

“We wanted it to feel honest and, honestly, hot,” showrunner Liz Meriwether tells Entertainment Weekly. “What’s fun is doing a genuinely sexy romance in a sitcom. That doesn’t always happen. … The characters themselves are such idiots when it comes to each other that it’s fun to figure out what new idiotic thing they will get up to.”

Liz also says it just felt logical for ‘Ness’ to hit the sheets at this point in the series.

“We were worried that it would come too soon, but we felt like, in reality, these characters would probably take that step,” Liz continues. “They’ve been back and forth and called it off, and basically they’re totally confused about how they feel about each other. We felt like they would realistically find themselves in that situation.”

What Will Happen To Nick & Jess In Season 3?

With only two episodes left on New Girl‘s second season, there’s a lot of relationship ‘stuff’ to wade through in a very short amount of time, but Liz says fans will get the answers they’re looking for — and it sounds like the showmance will have legs.

“I know they’re going to do something interesting in season 3,” Jake says. “Knowing the way Liz writes these characters, I’d be surprised if they just date and are happy.”

Well, kids, it finally happened. After 38 episodes of platonic room-mating, two stars of FOX’s New Girl locked lips on the show’s Jan. 29 episode — and it was actually pretty hot. So which of the eligible bachelors got to plant one on Jess (Zooey Deschanel)? Drumroll please…

Actually, they kissed twice, but only one of them had real passion behind it. During a game of “True American,” Nick and Jess ended up behind a curtain and engaged in a little kiss on the cheek. Jess tried to get a real kiss out of him — in the spirit of the game, of course — by telling him, “Let’s suck it up and French a little,” but something just didn’t feel right.

Jess’ boyfriend Sam (David Walton) even encouraged Nick to kiss his girlfriend — oh, Sam, you’re so oblivious — once again, in the spirit of the game.

And the more Jess pushed Nick to do it, the more awkward the situation became. When she finally told him she wanted to “get this over with,” he totally bugged out at her, saying, “No, not like this!”

The big moment finally came at the end of the episode, when Jess and Nick said goodnight to each other. As Jess started to walk away, Nick grabbed her arm and pulled her in for a crazy-hot, 13-second kiss. He even gave her an extra little kiss at the end which, to me, meant more than the big, exaggerated one.

Oh boy, I need a towel.

Zooey Deschanel, 32, is one of the most lovable leading ladies in Hollywood. The indie beauty never disappoints when it comes to her look. Retro hair and makeup is her signature. In a recent interview with Glamour, the star talked about her style and pressures in Hollywood to look a certain way.

On whether she considers her hair to be part of her “brand”…
Zooey Deschanel: “This business is all about branding! But I’ve never been like, “Let’s calculate an image.” I’m just, “I like that. Let’s do that.” I grew up loving French New Wave movies, and so a lot of what I like is that style. It’s just about doing what you like so that when you look at yourself, you’re not disgusted. And I’m all about unintentional. I’m not a calculated person…. Somebody asked me, “How did you start doing comedy?” and I was like, “By being unintentionally funny.” I think making a movie or a record, the best things happen by accident—and those end up being the magic. Every time I’ve followed my gut it’s been better than when I’ve tried to do what I was supposed to do.

On if she feels pressure to look a certain way…
Zooey Deschanel: “I don’t. But actresses have definitely gotten thinner over the course of my lifetime. Women I admired growing up— Debra Winger, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep—were all beautiful and thin, but not too thin. There are a lot of actresses who are unhealthy-skinny—much, much too skinny. You can’t Pilates to that. I’m a very small person, and if I lost 15 pounds, I’d look like them; it’s scary. For young girls, what does that say? You need to look this way to be successful? That’s not true. You do not need to look or be anorexic to be successful in Hollywood. The range of what’s acceptable is larger than what people believe.”

From the World Series to an NFL game, these three ladies were all very busy belting out the anthem — but they still took the time to show off three special, (yet very different), looks! Who do you think donned the best get-up for the occasion?

Zooey Deschanel turned up at Game 3 of the World Series in Detroit, where the star wowed the crowd when she belted out The Star Spangled Banner, dazzling in a sequin frock, red belt, and limited edition ruby pumps from Aldo. The dress was so pretty and feminine — and it was so consistent with Zooey’s sense of style!

While the New Girl star was enlisted to sing at Game 3, X Factor judge Demi Lovato followed up her act at Game 4 on Oct. 28. Demi turned up and displayed her signature style, rocking a pair of leather thigh-high boots, a tee and layered a ton of necklaces. The star looked cool and comfortable.

Across the pond on the very same day, Katherine Jenkins flaunted her svelte frame in a Herve Leger dress when she sung the National Anthem at London’s Wembley Stadium, where the New England Patriots played the St. Louis Rams.
