It looks like long distance got the better of Ashlee Simpson, 28, and Vincent Piazza, who plays Lucky Luciano on the hit series Boardwalk Empire, as Us Weekly reports that the couple — who began dating a year and a half ago — has decided to call it quits. ”There was no bad blood and no third party involved,” a source close to the couple tells the magazine. “It was honestly just a long distance relationship and it became too hard to make it work.”

But wait, there’s hope!

“It’s not necessarily forever, and they could get back together,” the source adds. “Nobody is to blame. Just the distance.”

Before Vincent and Ashlee started dating, Ashlee was married to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, 33. In Novemeber 2008, the couple had their first child together, Bronx, who is nearly 4 years old. Two years later the couple split and finalized their divorce in November 2011.

Ashlee recently debuted her new single Bat For A Heart on Nov. 21 so hopefully an album is in the works, which would definitely keep her mind off of her most recent break-up.

Ashlee Simpson is flexing her single lady freedom and dipping back into the dating pool four months after filing for divorce from Pete Wentz. The 26-year-old songstress was spotted in the Big Apple June 15 getting cozy with Boardwalk Empire actor Vincent Piazza.

“They were laughing and chatting,” a source told Us Weekly. “She’d stop to kiss him; she couldn’t take her eyes off him.”

Another source said the couple is taking their new relationship very slowly, especially because it’s a long distance romance. Ashlee and Vincent were introduced by a mutual friend and sources claim he’s just Ashlee’s type.

“Vincent’s a chill guy, very artsy, the quiet type,” said a friend close to Ashlee’s new beau. “He likes her.”

Just a few days before Ashlee hit the streets of New York with her new man, she was caught in Los Angeles spending some family time with her son Bronx and ex, Pete. It’s good for their son the exes are still staying cordial as they venture on into new relationships!
