Miley Cyrus definitely has a distinct sense of style, often pushing the envelope in a slew of revealing get-ups. While she walked the red carpet for the 2012 VH1 Divas event in California on Dec. 16, the star looked sophisticated and chic in a long-sleeved, cutout Omo by Norma Kamali dress — but it wasn’t long before she swapped her frock for something way more revealing!

Her Punk Rock Performance Outfit:

Miley ditched her dress before taking the stage, where she flaunted her toned tummy in an unforgettable costume. For her performance of Billy Idol‘s “Rebel Yell” the 20-year-old channeled the infamous punk rocker, donning a studded leather crop top and leather pants. From her short, bleach-blonde ‘do to her interesting get-up, she clearly was channeling the performer. Thanks to her spiked, padded shoulders and the belly chain, the punk style had a very bondage vibe — and the star grabbed her crotch multiple times throughout the performance, while flames blazed behind her while she rocked out at the Shrine Auditorium.

Miley isn’t afraid to push the envelope, and that’s clearly what she set out to do last night when she channeled Billy Idol in her punk-rock ensemble. Adding her signature sexy edge to the outfit, Miley rocked out with her figure on full display — and she seemed to feel so confident and cool on stage!

The VH1 Divas 2012 event at the Shrine Auditorium on Dec. 16 in California drew quite the crowd! From Miley Cyrus, (who opted for her signature edge in a sophisticated Omo by Norma Kamali cutout dress), to Demi Lovato in a feminine frock from one of her fave brands, Topshop, there was so much variety on the red carpet. These gals definitely didn’t stick to demure looks — and they weren’t alone! You can see all the interesting looks from last night right here.

Ciara was by far the most glam of the night, and definitely the main stunner on the red carpet. While she has an affinity for sexy, show-stopping minis she swapped her usual style for a totally gorgeous Pamella Roland gown that fit her like a glove. The plunging, sequin long-sleeved get-up featured sheer panels and a train — and she looked so fantastic in the fabulous gown! I hope we get to see more of this side of Ciara.

After Ciara, I also really liked Miley’s red carpet look — but I can’t say the same about her performance get-up. While it was definitely edgy and performance perfect, I still like Miley’s mature, sophisticated style much better than her cropped, studded top and low-waisted pants. While she’s definitely in great shape and can easily pull off her punk-rock stage style, I think she really stands out on the red carpet when she dresses sexy and chic.
