Vanessa, 49, will appear on an upcoming episode of Anderson Cooper‘s talkshow Anderson. When Anderson asked her if the kids — who are regularly spray tanned and told to parade around in provocative clothing — were pushed too early into the pageant industry, the former beauty queen replied: “I think they don’t know what they are doing.”

“When the child is screaming and saying, ‘I don’t want to do this. I don’t feel like doing it.’ When they are using special juice to get them hyped,” she said in disgust, regarding the sugary and caffeinated Mountain Dew + Seven-Up mixture the kids sometimes drink.

Vanessa added, “That’s not my world and I would never have my kids do that.”

Renee (Vanessa Williams) and Ben’s (Charles Mesure) relationship hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing on Desperate Housewives this season — mobsters, break-ins, and heart attacks are among the many hiccups — and it doesn’t look like the couple’s wedding day is going to be any easier. A new on-set photo reveals a tense situation involving Renee and Gaby (Eva Longoria), leading me to think her big day will also bring big trouble.

It’s official: the Desperate Housewives are back — and I’m not just talking about the show itself. Susan (Teri Hatcher), Gaby (Eva Longoria), Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Bree (Marcia Cross) finally came together on the Sept. 25 season premiere in a way they haven’t since the show’s first season. It’s just too bad their reunion has to involve covering up a murder. I can already tell this season of Pretty Little Liars – I mean, Desperate Housewives — is going to be a good one.

Unfortunately, that same feeling of togetherness doesn’t exactly extend throughout Wisteria Lane. Despite the fact that they occasionally sleep together when Lynette gets nightmares, she and Tom (Doug Savant) are still very much separated. They even made it official by breaking the news to their two remaining kids. I really miss the twin-gers (that’s twin gingers, for those of you playing at home.)

Meanwhile, as Bree continued to tip-toe around her cop boyfriend, Gaby tried to help Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) find peace. But since nothing is ever simple on Wisteria Lane, his quest for peace involved Gaby kidnapping a priest. Seriously, after she attacked that nun back in season two, how is Gaby even allowed back in that church?

Lastly, René (Vanessa Williams) reminded us all of her true place on the show — she’s clearly the new Edie, and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves — as she shamelessly threw herself at the new neighbor, Ben (Charles Mesure.) We didn’t learn much about Ben this week — other than his clear disinterest with René — but with that accent and devil-may-care facial hair, I’m sure he’s got a past. We just need to be patient.

Speaking of being patient, I can’t wait to see how this final season will bring the whole show full circle, as we’ve been promised. The episode ended with Bree receiving a very familiar letter (“I know what you did. It makes me sick. I’m going to tell.”) and now we’re left with two questions: Who could have sent it?

And more importantly: Which of the women is most likely to follow Mary-Alice’s (Brenda Strong) lead and kill herself out of guilt? Susan seems to be the weakest link, as she literally broke down in tears when she had to bury her class’ hamster. (Miz Delfino, I’m keeping an eye on you.)

Sorry, but someone has to ask the tough questions around here…

Vanessa Williams: recording artist, actress, former Miss America and mom of four. Wow! Is there anything she can’t do? Vanessa starred in Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010, but now has a leading role as a new housewife on Wisteria Lane!

Paul enlisted the help of his mortal enemy Feb. 13 to find out who tried to kill him. As it turns out, the answer was… kind of obvious.

It was Zach (Cody Kasch), okay? Zach Young shot his daddy (Mark Moses) point blank after last winter’s big riot. I’m sorry to come to right out and say it without a big “spoiler alert,” but wasn’t it obvious at this point? It was even obvious to Paul, who asked Mike (James Denton) to track down his biological drug-addict son personally. But maybe Mike should have been paying less attention to Zach and more attention to his wife…

Susan (Teri Hatcher) got a kidney this week… and a stalker! She bumped into an old ‘friend’ from high school, Monroe, who suspiciously decided to donate his kidney to her cause. As it turned out, this ‘friend’ has been carrying a torch for Susan — and a scrapbook full of pictures of Susan, often taken from afar — since they were teenagers. In the end, she told him she’s married and he backed off… but are we really supposed to believe the cray man won’t go all crazy? I smell a season finale shooting in the works.

In sad relationship news, Bree (Marcia Cross) finally came clean to Keith (Brian Austin Green) about the son he didn’t know he had. And in sad storytelling news, we didn’t even get to see him really react to the information, as his shock was delivered through one of the show’s trademark montages. Grr…

Elsewhere, Lynette’s (Felicity Huffman) new step-daddy Frank dropped dead while posing in the most awkward family portrait ever. But since Frank was a total d-bag — and filthy rich — no one really seemed to care. In fact, Lynette even used Frank’s corpse as a puppet to scare Tom (Doug Savant), who let out a fantastically girlish shriek. Lynette’s mom, now a millionaire, lavished her family with gifts and became a bitter old miser literally overnight.

And finally, Gabby (Eva Longoria) managed to remain selfish and semi-psychotic this week, skipping out on therapy in favor of trips to the spa. It was later revealed that Gabby still has a ton of baggage left over from her childhood, hence the infatuation with the Grace doll. I honestly didn’t feel too invested in Gabby this week — I’m just bummed Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) grew back his beard. The clean-shaven look really worked for him.

Season 7, episode 8: ‘Sorry Grateful’ brought crying babies & illegal immigrants galore!

In the spirit of the Nov. 14 episode’s title (yeah, I think I’ll do that from now on) there were definitely things I was “sorry” about and “grateful” for. Obviously I felt sorry for the crumbling families (Gaby’s immigration snafoo, Susan’s crying fits and Beth’s mommy issues) but at the same time, I was grateful for all the same reasons. We’ve got some serious drama on our hands, here — and I’m talking death-threatening-husband-stealing-felony-committing DRAMA.

I’m sorry for…

1. Hector, Carmen and Grace: Thanks to Gaby’s (Eva Longoria Parker) selfish — and slightly drunken — behavior, the police discovered that Hector and Carmen are illegal immigrants. But since Grace, who’s Gaby’s biological daughter, was born in the US, it looks like Gaby’s going to work that selfish magic again to keep her. ¡Escandalo!
2. Susan (Teri Hatcher): She couldn’t stand listening to Lynette’s (Felicity Huffman) daughter cry herself to sleep because — as she reveals in a dramatic form only the Hatch can deliver — she and MJ both cry themselves to sleep because Mike (James Denton) is still off working in Alaska.
3. Felicia (Harriet Harris): Her whole plan to expose Paul (Mark Moses) is blowing up in her face — and she is looking all kinds of crazy (see above photo for further proof.) Her daughter Beth has been working for her this whole time, but she’s starting to love her forced husband Paul. And, even worse, she believes he didn’t actually kill Martha.
4. Bree (Marcia Cross): Her big Thanksgiving with Keith (Brian Austin Green) and his parents was totally ruined by Keith’s parents deciding to get a divorce. That definitely put the brakes on Keith’s planned proposal to Bree. Meanwhile, it looks like Keith’s dad (John Schneider) has the hots for “red delicious” as well.

I’m grateful for…

1. The few remaining selfish (aka entertaining) women on Wisteria Lane: Gaby and René (Vanessa Williams!) Gaby’s selfish desire to keep her biological daughter around is fueling the show’s best dramatic story line, and René’s not-so-subtle advances on Tom (Doug Savant) make me think we might have actually be getting showdown we were promised at the start of the season.

I feel like Desperate Housewives is becoming a completely different show every week, and on the Nov. 7 episode, I felt like I was watching an episode of Designing Women. Completely out of the blue, René (Vanessa Williams) decided to start an interior design company, enlisting Lynette (Felicity Huffman) to handle the “business-y” side of things and Susan (Teri Hatcher) to take over as Lynette’s nanny. Now would be the perfect time for a special guest appearance by Delta Burke. Where’s she been hiding?

Sadly, Bree’s (Marcia Cross) cougar saga hit a serious bump in the road with her very own rendition of Meet the Parents. Dinner with Keith’s (Brian Austin Green) went pretty terribly when Bree recognized Keith’s mom as her doctor — one of the only few people who know she’s going through Menopause. Needless to say, Bree and Keith had the “you want kids someday, but I don’t” talk and I’m starting to see less of a future for these two.

Meanwhile in Crazytown, Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) became concerned that Bob (Tuc Watkins) might be trying to turn Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) gay, so she broke up their friendship. I’m just going to pretend this didn’t happen at all.

And Paul’s (Mark Moses) wife finally figured out what her new husband is plotting for our favorite Wisterians — but the real shock came when we saw Beth visiting Felicia Tillman (Harriet Harris) in prison. It turns out Beth is Felicia’s daughter and has been reporting back to her all along! Oh snap. I have a feeling things are about to get really real in Fairview.
