Salma, mother of 4-year-old Valentina, dishes in the October issue of Redbook about how her little girl influenced her role in ‘Puss in Boots.’

Motherhood changes a woman in several ways, and when it comes to one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses Salma Hayek – it’s no different.

The 45-year-old mother tells Redbook her daughter Valentina motivated her to play the character of Kitty Softpaws in the Dreamworks Animation film Puss In Boots — which is about the life of the famous sword fighting cat in Shrek.

“I liked the idea of doing a movie that Valentina could see, since there are many I’ve done that she is too young to see, and a few I’d probably never want her to. I’m a watchdog when it comes to what she can and cannot see,” Salma says to the mag.

But don’t worry– this doesn’t mean we will never see her in another action-packed, racy film again.

“‘I’m playing the queen of a drug cartel in an Oliver Stone film,’” Salma tells the mag about her new role in Savages. “‘He asked if I’d gone ‘all soft’ because I’m a mother. I said ‘Yes, but I can be the devil if I need to, because after all, I’m an actress.’”

We’re happy to hear Salma won’t be only be sticking to children’s films, but we’re definitely looking forward to Puss in Boots!

Salma Hayek, her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault and their adorable little girl, Valentina, have been spending their holiday vacation in St. Barts, where they rang in the new year and enjoyed some beach time. But by the looks of it, Salma and Francois might be enjoying themselves too much — they’ve gone cuckoo!  The couple was spotted riding jet-skis in the ocean with 3-year-old Valentina on board! Isn’t she a little too young to be on fast-paced wave runner?

Maybe the Gosselins will go jet-skiing in Australia!

What we’re worried about is Salma, 44, and Francois, 48, accidentally crashing — their jet-skis seem a little close!  Although we know Salma would never put her daughter in danger, it just doesn’t seem safe for a toddler to be riding on a jet-ski, especially a child as tiny as Valentina!

To whoever runs the rental place and let Valentina ride — are you crazy putting a 3-year-old on one of those things? You must have pretty good insurance.

Salma Hayek’s daughter, Valentina Pinault, is sure one lucky little girl! The 3-year-old is looking more and more like her bombshell mom every day, especially with her long wavy hair! The 44-year-old actress and her tyke spent the holidays in St. Barts with Salma’s hubby — and Valentina’s daddy — François-Henri Pinault, 48, where they had lunch together and then hung out on their yacht.

Still, this bit of activity is a far cry from the stuff Salma used to do before she was a mom. “I don’t have a lot of time anymore,” she said recently. “Your social life suffers a little bit, definitely. Every parent will tell you that. At one point in my life, I was very involved with social causes. I’m still involved, but now I have a family and it’s important to me. I have to do this for myself, but there’s just only so much you can do sometimes.”

At least Salma is making sure to enjoy these precious moments she gets to spend with her little girl, who’ll be all grown up before her mama knows it!

They’re only 2 years old but the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s twins, Knox and Vivienne, already know French!

Angelina Jolie‘s late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, spoke French, and the actress made a decision with her partner, Brad Pitt, that all of their children should learn French too. But the couple’s youngest kids, 2-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne, are so advanced that they are already bilingual! “They speak more French than English,” Angie recently said according to Life & Style magazine. “We have a French teacher who’s always with them.” Experts say that learning a second language when you’re under the age of 5 can make you smarter, so Brad and Ange are totally doing the right thing for their kids.

Kids who learn a second language (or a third in the case of Salma Hayek‘s daughter, Valentina), have better communication skills and some studies even suggest that it makes their brains more nimble so that they don’t have to work as hard to solve mathematical problems.

The insider tells Life & Style that the teachers Angie refers to are more like French nannies. “Because the nannies do so much day-to-day care, the twins naturally speak in French. But Angie encourages it,” the insider says. “She’s always been obsessed with the idea that educated people speak French as a second language.”

Valentina Pinault sure looks cute, but doctors warn that having a binkie at her age could do her harm!

Wow, Valentina Pinault is growing up fast, but it looks like she’s still hanging onto the baby pacifier. It might not seem like a big deal, but pediatrician Dr. Julia White tells HollywoodLife.com that it can cause some harmful side effects in development and might have already done some harm to the two-and-a-half-year-old. “It’s best to get rid of it by the time they are a year old, definitely by 18 months or two years,” White advises. Why?  “It can interfere with the shape of their mouth if they have it for too long. You can see the effect on some kids who have awkward-looking front teeth.”

Sounds like good advice, but it might be easier said than done for Salma and her husband, François-Henri Pinault. Valentina has a pretty big say in what happens in her family. Mom actually changed her name to Salma Hayek Pinault at little Valentina’s request! Salma told InStyle in May, “We were shooting [Grown Ups], and she saw my chair with my name on it. She said, ‘What does it say there?’ And I said, ‘Salma Hayek.’ And she said, ‘What about Pinault? Why not Pinault?’”

Valentina sounds like a little girl with a lot of opinions! And although it might involve tears and tantrums, Salma shouldn’t let Valentina get her way this time. The binkie has to go!
