Death is never easy, though sometimes, it is necessary. HollywoodLife.com chatted with the victim of True Blood‘s June 16 season premiere for the inside story on the shocking goodbye, and how it’ll affect the futures of several fan-favorite residents of Bon Temps.

I’m obviously referring to Luna (Janina Gavankar), who took her final breath within the first 10 minutes of the premiere. With her boyfriend and her child weeping over her body, it was one of the series’ most heartbreaking deaths, and Janina had lots to say about it. She told us how she prepared to film the death, why she’s now shipping Sam (Sam Trammell) and Sookie (Anna Paquin), and where we might see Luna again!

Janina Gavankar Talks Luna’s Death & Sam’s Future (With Sookie?)

First of all, my condolences. I thought Luna would pull through.

Thank you, thank you.

How did you prepare to film that final scene?

Well, we actually shot her death scene last year, so this is the second time I’ve died as Luna on set. We shot a death scene for the last episode of season five, but apparently it didn’t really work out. I don’t know, something wasn’t right about it. So they cut it, then had me come back so I could re-die. I basically flew to L.A. from Vancouver — I had done a shoot on Arrow the night before — just to die as Luna. Again.

When did you find out Luna was going to die?

It was somewhere in the middle of season five. Probably the day they made the decision that that was going to be the end of her trajectory, I got a call from Greg Feinberg; a very sad call. I was like, ‘It’s fine, it’s OK.’ When I signed on to do this show, I knew people don’t make it very long. I was so surprised to have made it even to a second season, especially since Sam is such a cursed character. It’s Sam against the gods, always.

I always used to joke about not making it past my first season, but towards the end of season four, I was shooting the s**t outside “Luna’s house” with [new showrunner] Brian Buckner. He put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘By the way, you don’t die.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, I had no idea.’ In True Blood land, I feel pretty darn blessed to have gotten past my first season.

I guess I should have asked this first: Is Luna really dead? Could we see her again?

[Laughs] Well, does anybody really, truly die on True Blood? Godric died twice! … So one never knows. Truly, even me, I don’t know. One never knows.

How do you think losing Luna will affect Sam?

I ultimately want Sookie to end up with Sam now that Luna’s dead. When this show is done, in 15 or 20 years, I want Sookie to look at Sam and say, ‘It’s always been you.’ He has been in love with her since the beginning of time, since before we’ve even met them. Sookie met Bill on the pilot, then Eric on episode two. Like, who are these people? They’re new, and Sam has always been there for her.

As for Sam and Emma, hopefully they’ll be OK. I do know, but I don’t know. … [Luna] also just told the world that shifters exist. No one saw Sam shift on camera, but they know who Luna is, and they know she has a daughter.

Did Luna really have to die?

For Luna, in that moment, it’s a decision she makes. She realizes the three of them won’t make it out if they have to drag her along, so she decides to sacrifice herself. As it’s always been with Luna, her first priority is her daughter, and she realizes this is the only way to sacrifice her daughter.

Looking back from season four to now, what do you think of Luna’s evolution?

She just did not have an easy life. She grew up in a really screwed-up family on the Navajo nation. She moved to Louisiana, but because she didn’t know any shifters, she ran off with some wolves. And she finally came so close to having real love with a real stand-up guy. Thank God for Sam, because she really felt confident handing off her daughter to him.

Picking up right where we left off, the June 16 season premiere of True Blood found Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) running like hell from “Billith,” whom Jason (Ryan Kwanten) aptly referred to as a “naked evil Superman.” But is Bill (Stephen Moyer) really the dark, irredeemable vampire god that Truebies have spent all year fearing he would be?

That remains a bit of a mystery.

Upon returning home from the Authority, Bill was able to revert back to his former self — physically, at least — though he discovered a few handy new powers, like telepathy and the ability to make mini-earthquakes. But things got super weird at the end of the episode. Bill was suddenly overcome by painful visions (was he hearing the prayers of his injured vampire people?) then greeted by three bloody, naked Liliths!

If you’d asked me last summer, I’d have predicted Bill wouldn’t live much longer than the sixth season premiere. But now that I’ve seen his struggle — I think he wants to be good, but is obviously dealing with some “heady f***ing s**t,” as he put it — I’m not so sure. Regardless, it’s not going to be an easy road to walk. Or fly.

Sookie & Eric: Together Again?

There were so many incredible Sookie-Eric moments this week, I could hardly stand it. Not only did he go out of his way to save her at the Authority headquarters, but she also returned the favor by staking ‘Billith’ when he tried to kill Eric. And as the former couple walked back to Sookie’s house later that night, he told her, “To me, you’ll always be that girl in the white dress; the one who walked into my bar.” #swoon

Sadly, Sookie ended up rescinding Eric’s invitation to her house, but not because of anything he did; she’s just attempting to de-vampire her life for a bit. (Like that‘ll happen. I say there’s hope for these two yet!)

Mr. Stackhouse’s Wild Ride

Following the showdown at the Authority headquarters, Jason hitched a ride — who picks up a gun-toting hitchhiker covered in blood? — with a creepy old man, and things escalated quickly. After telling the stranger every single detail of his life, including his involvement with Warlow — again, what an idiot! — Jason realized he might be sitting next to more than just your run-of-the-mill old man.

Jumping to Jason-like conclusions, he started shooting at the presumed Warlow, but the old man vanished into thin air, as the car careened head-first into a tree. This scene really freaked me out — especially when the old man started to cackle — but as long as we’re placing bets, I’m still putting my money on ‘Not Warlow.’

Jason’s such an idiot. Why can’t he just keep his mouth shut and let us all enjoy the pretty?

Goodnight, Luna

The first casualty of season six — or, at least, the first casualty anyone actually cared about — turned out to be Luna (Janina Gavankar), who couldn’t keep her s**t together after skin-walking into Steve Newlin on national television.

And Luna left a serious mess in her wake; not only did she expose shifters to the world, but she also left Emma with Sam (Sam Trammell), both of whom are now basically on the run from the authority. (No, not that “Authority.”)

Good thing he’s got Lafayette to take care of the hair and food situations! (Side note: Is Lafayette actually going to do anything this season? I miss when the writers actually gave him material.)

Pam & Tara’s First Fight

We’ve known that Pam (Kristin Bauer Van Straten) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) were lesbians for a while now, but I never really saw it until this week when the two ladies shared a heart-to-heart on the beach. Though Eric will always be the most important person in Pam’s after-life, it looks like Tara is going to try to break through her wall.

And even though Pam insisted this wasn’t going to be an “epic f***ing love story,” she changed her tune when the police busted into Fangtasia and shot Tara. (Oh, did I forget to mention that the Governor of Louisiana instituted a vampire curfew, shut down all vampire-owned businesses and encouraged civillians to buy guns with wooden bullets? No biggie.)

Hairiest Threesome Ever

Now that Game of Thrones has cornered the market on ‘putting sex into a scene for no reason,’ True Blood is really stepping up its game. Case in point: Rikki caught Alcide having sexy times with some were-trick named Danielle in the middle of the woods, but rather than lash out at the new packmaster for cheating on her, Rikki turned the whole thing into a were-threesome!

“I’m your number one bitch,” Rikki told Alcide, as Danielle proceeded to were-pleasure them both. “Don’t ever forget it.”

Werewolves; they’re just like us!

Adventures In Fairy Babysitting

Like it or not, Andy (Chris Bauer) is now a father to four half-fairy babies — and I guess it’s true what they say about kids growing up so fast, because by the end of the episode, the sheriff’s new brood was walking and talking!

I thought Andy’s storyline, albeit ridiculous, added some much-needed lightness to an otherwise heavy premiere. I really liked Arlene’s (Carrie Preston) speech to Andy about what it means to be a parent, and I was even happy to see Terry (Todd Lowe) again — now that he doesn’t come attached to that god-awful smoke monster from last season.

True Blood is (finally) getting back to its roots! Despite the larger-than-life drama surrounding Bill (Stephen Moyer) – or “Billith,” as he’s now affectionately known — season six mostly takes us back to the core issues we loved about the show’s first few seasons: shocking deaths, human-on-vampire conflict, and of course, Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) super-complicated love life. ‘True Blood’ Season Premiere: 5 Spoilers

1. Another one bites the dust!

When showrunner Brian Buckner promised game-changing deaths in season six, he wasn’t kidding! Within the first 10 minutes of the season premiere, a fan-favorite character meets his/her untimely end. Have the Kleenex handy, kids! (And be sure to check HollywoodLife.com immediately after the episode for my Q&A with the dearly departed.)

2. Three’s company.

If you thought Sookie’s dream threesome in season four was intense, just wait until you see the three-way in the season premiere! Since Joe Manganiello already spilled the beans, I can tell you the three-way is between Alcide, Rikki (Kelly Overton) and a new member of the wolf pack — but what I can’t reveal is what comes out of Rikki’s mouth immediately following the dirty deed. Let’s just say it might be the best, and definitely most ridiculous, line of the entire episode.

3. Sookie’s surprising stand.

Though the Sookie-Bill-Eric love triangle isn’t the main focus of season six — that pretty much ended when she chose herself back in season four — the premiere does have some serious romantic overtones. Sookie makes several conscious decisions throughout the hour that prove which vampire she’s leaning towards, and her actions might surprise you!

4. Jason’s new BFF.

Now that he knows the truth — or at least some of the truth — about Warlow, Jason (Ryan Kwanten) has one main goal in season six: Kill. All. Vampires. And a not-so-chance encounter with a new face on the season premiere will determine his success, though I can’t say if it’s for the better.

5. Kill Bill?

Given the way season five ended, fans have no idea what to expect from Bill in the coming weeks. Is he good or evil? Is he a vampire or a god? Honestly, both questions are impossible to answer, even for Bill himself. We’ll watch Bill wrestle with his new-found identity on the premiere, and for weeks to come.

Every scene with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and baby Zola is “aww”-inspiring, so we can only imagine how much we’re going to love seeing him with his and Meredith’s new baby next season!

6. Jaime Lannister, Game of Thrones

Ignoring the fact that Jaime’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) son Joffrey was born through incest — and is the most insufferable character on the show — you’ve go to admit: He inherited a damn fine head of hair. #Swoon

7. Fitzgerald Grant, Scandal

President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) certainly won’t win husband of the year — his relationship with wife Millie is volatile, to say the least — but when you see him on the floor, playing with his new baby, you forget all about his philandering ways.

8. Deacon Claybourne, Nashville

His raging alcoholism aside, Deacon (Charles Esten) can shred the guitar like no other — and that makes him hot in our book.

9. Don Draper, Mad Men

Much like Scandal‘s President Grant, Don (Jon Hamm) is a terrible husband. … And come to think of it, he’s a pretty bad father, too. … Oh well, still hot.

10. Michael Bluth, Arrested Development

We swooned over him the first time around, and we swooned even harder when Michael (Jason Bateman) and the rest of his bats**t-crazy family were revived on Netflix this summer.

11. Kevin Hamilton, Awkward

We’re still not totally sure what Kevin (Mike Faiola) does for a living, but he must be doing well, because he has a huge hot tub — and he looks damn good in it.

12. Chris Argent, Teen Wolf

Allison’s dad is so hot, we’re willing to forget that Chris (J.R. Bourne) basically spent the first two seasons of Teen Wolf trying to kill off the entire cast of hot werewolves.

13. Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead

Some dads bond with their kids over a game of catch, but not Rick (Andrew Lincoln). He’s more of a ‘let’s go kill some zombies’ kind of dad, and we wouldn’t have him any other way.

14. Tom Bradshaw, The Carrie Diaries

We don’t want to know what Tom (Matt Letscher) looks like now. We prefer the ’80s version of Carrie’s dad; he’s kind of a babe.

15. Dexter Morgan, Dexter

Dexter (Michael C. Hall) may be saying goodbye after this summer’s final season, but we’ll never forget him — or how dead-sexy he was.

With the season premiere of True Blood just three days away, Truebies worldwide are chomping at the bit to find out what’s in store for Sookie (Anna Paquin) and her supernatural sidekicks. In an interview with Rolling Stone, new showrunner Brian Buckner spills some major season six secrets — including the death of a fan-favorite resident of Bon Temps.

“One of our principal characters will not make it all the way through the season,” Brian tells the mag — a statement sure to shivers down the spine of any Truebie. “We’re going to stop to grieve them, and try to tell the more human side of the supernatural stories we’re telling.”

Who’s Dying In Season Six?

As dark a suggestion as this may be, many fans have speculated that Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) will bite the dust this season, based on the eerie key art for the new season. A vampire, which looks a lot like Eric, is seen screaming above the tagline “No one lives forever.” Though True Blood authorities insist the vampire isn’t meant to look like any specific character on the show, it’s hard to look at the picture without feeling at least a little nervous for Mr. Northman.

Personally, I’ll be beyond surprised if Eric ends up getting the axe. I’m guessing we’ll lose a less pivotal, though still important, character — maybe someone like Jason (Ryan Kwanten) or Tara (Rutina Wesley). Then again, would anyone really miss Tara?

Whoever the victim may be, he/she will be honored on the seventh episode of the sixth season, appropriately titled “The Funeral.” And the friends he/she leaves behind will reflect on his/her memory on episode nine, “Life Matters.”

When you star on a hit HBO show about sex-crazed vampires, chances are you’re going to have to strip down from time to time — and that’s A-OK with Alexander Skarsgard. The statuesque gentleman stopped by Conan on June 5 to talk about True Blood‘s upcoming sixth season, and he revealed the surprising reason why he’s so comfortable in his own skin.

Apparently, he has his dad Stellan Skarsgard to thank!

“I think I was 14 the first time I saw my dad wearing pants,” Alexander said of his dad. “When he wasn’t at the theater, he was home cooking or chilling … with no clothes on.”

Then things got really weird.

“It’s not that big, so it’s fine,” he added, talking about the “stove” in his family’s kitchen. “It’s average, plus.” (Right, Skarsgard. The “stove.”)

Along with being perpetually shirtless — and possibly more, HBO-willing — Alexander’s Eric Northman will be getting in touch with his dark side in season six.

“[Eric's] doing some evil stuff this year, some stuff that’s not so nice,” Alexander told HollywoodLife.com exclusively May 20 at Piaget’s screening of Fox Searchlight’s The East in NYC. “You’ll see this season he’s doing some pretty nasty stuff. It’s not all good.”

Summer is finally here, and with it, a whole new crop of shows to monopolize all of our free time! (Because that’s what summer’s really about, right?) From talent shows and “real” housewives to brooding vampires and mischievous maids, HollywoodLife.com rounded up the 15 shows we’re most excited for — in alphabetical order.

1. ‘America’s Got Talent’ (June 4 at 9 p.m. on NBC)

NBC’s long-running talent show is getting a bit of a facelift as it heads into its eighth season, with supermodel Heidi Klum and former Spice Girl Mel B joining the big boys on the judges’ panel. Throw in some body contortionists and a few dancing dogs, and we’ve got ourselves a party!

2. ‘The Bachelorette’ (May 27 at 8 p.m. on ABC)

Are you a fan of horny, desperate meatheads willing to make complete fools of themselves in the name of love? Of course you are, and so are we, which is why we’re already loving the current season of The Bachelorette. Desiree Hartsock definitely has her work cut out of her — and I’m not just talking about her budding rap career.

3. ‘Bridezillas’ (May 31 at 8 p.m. on WE tv)

Enjoy the insanity while you can! The upcoming 10th season of Bridezillas will be its last, bringing WE tv’s history of out-of-control brides to an end. Fortunately, its spin-off – Marriage Boot Camp: Bridezillas – will follow some of our favorite brides’ post-wedding drama!

4. ‘Devious Maids’ (June 23 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime)

If you thought the upper-crust ladies of Desperate Housewives were a gas, just wait till you see what the help is up to! Desperate creator Marc Cherry and star Eva Longoria are co-producing this soapy new drama, which follows five sexy — and, of course, devious — maids who likely create more messes than they clean up.

5. ‘The Fosters’ (June 3 at 9 p.m. on ABC)

From executive producer Jennifer Lopez, this new drama tells the story of two women – Teri Polo and Sherri Saum – doing their best to raise their family, which is a mix of biological and adoptive children. The kicker? Not only is it a foster family, but the family’s last name is actually Foster! I know, it’s adorable.

6. ‘Graceland’ (June 6 at 10 p.m. on USA)

USA has a knack for creating dynamic — not to mention visually pleasing — duos, but Graceland‘s Aaron Tveit and Daniel Sunjata might take the handsome cake. And although their characters are assuming fake identities, we’re willing to follow the teachings of the great philosopher Ke$ha: We don’t care what their middle names are.

7. ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ (June 2 at 9 p.m. on E!)

If you thought pregnant Kourtney Kardashian was fun to watch — you may recall her literally pulling her baby out of her in the delivery room — just wait until you get a load of Kim Kardashian all knocked up! We’ve covered her pregnancy in depth, but in true Kardashian form, we know there’s always more madness just below the surface.

8. ‘Mistresses’ (June 3 at 10 p.m. on ABC)

A remake of the original British series of the same name, this soapy drama could also be called Sex & The Suburbs, as four friends navigate the joys and consequences — mostly consequences — of sex outside their marriages. And with Alyssa Milano‘s sunshiny face leading the ladies, you’ll totally forget what terrible people the characters are.

9. ‘Pretty Little Liars’ (June 11 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family)

What’s in the trunk? Is Alison alive? The third season finale left us with tons of unanswered questions — and don’t expect the answers to come easily in season four!

10. ‘The Real Housewives Of New Jersey’ (June 2 at 8 p.m. on Bravo)

Are your dining room tables securely fastened to the floor? Good, because the Garden State flippers are back for a fifth season this summer — and with the infamous Danielle Staub rumored to be returning, we’re equal parts excited and scared!

11. ‘Switched At Birth’ (June 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family)

Oh, baby! Angelo’s bombshell surprise is going to blow the roofs off the Kennish and Vasquez’ houses — maybe literally — and we can only imagine how Bay (Vanessa Marano) will lash out when the show returns for the second half of its second season. The first episode’s title, “Mother And Child Divided,” is probably not a good sign.

12. ‘Teen Mom 3′ (TBD on MTV)

Though MTV has yet to set a premiere date for the third installment of its over-the-top docu-series, we’ve got our fingers ready to hit record as soon as an announcement is made. If any of these new girls are half as bananas as Jenelle Evans, we won’t be able to handle it.

13. ‘Teen Wolf’ (June 3 at 10 p.m. on MTV)

In many ways, Teen Wolf‘s third season feels like a completely different show — and we mean that in a good way. New enemies, new allies and new powers will put Scott (Tyler Posey) in peril like never before. And as always, that peril remains clothing-optional.

14. ‘True Blood’ (June 16 at 9 p.m. on HBO)

The bloody buddies of Bon Temps pick up right where the fifth season finale left off, with Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) fleeing from a bloody naked Billith (Stephen Moyer), who also happens to now be a vampire god. But will he smite his former friends, or will he “do bad things” with his divine powers? Only time will tell.

15. ‘Twisted’ (June 11 at 9 p.m. on ABC Family)

ABC Family gave fans an early look at its latest thriller, but trust me, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! When star Avan Jogia visited HollywoodLife.com back in March, he promised “mystery and romance.” Oh, and murder. There’s also plenty of murder.

“I like them both,” he told us about ‘good’ Eric and ‘evil’ Eric. “It’s fun to go back and forth, you get to play around with both sides. It’s always more interesting than one extreme or the other … when you have both within, and it’s an internal struggle.”

Nordic & ‘Nasty’

We’ve seen Eric commit some pretty seedy acts — remember when he killed Talbot while having sex with him? — and Alexander promised there’s plenty more where that came from. Though he admitted that Eric’s temporary season-four amnesia “affected him in a way,” he said Eric’s still going to be up to his old tricks.

“You’ll see this season he’s doing some pretty nasty stuff,” he told us. “It’s not all good.”
