Whether you’ve seen the first two Transformer movies by director Michael Bay or not, it’s not hard to get pulled into the unbelievable — but who cares — action of this third flick in the series.

Star Shia, as the impatient Sam Witwicky, is understandably frustrated that after saving the world twice, he still can’t get a job after graduating from college. It’s a predicament a whole lot of young people can identify with!

But even worse for Sam than his lack of employment is that fact he’s driving a jalopy, instead of his slick, fast yellow Transformer car,’ Bumblebee’, which has now become the hands-off property of the U.S. federal government.

On top of that, his interfering wise-cracking retired parents show up on his doorstep to nag him about his lack of employment and his problems with his gorgeous, apparently wealthy girlfriend, Carly, played by the leggy Megan Fox replacement, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

But no sooner does Sam finally land a job, working for an OCD-ish John Malkovich — who looks like he’s having a fabulous fun time being nasty, than he finds himself stuck in the middle of a new intergalatic battle between the honorable Autobots and the evil Cybertrons, and this time, the entire world is at risk.

While Josh Duhamel is so low key as some high level Navy Seal- type military leader you barely know he’s there, Frances McDormand is riveting as a hard-nosed, Hermes bag-carrying National Security Chief called Mearing, who’s supposed to be tougher than ANY man.

Patrick Dempsey oozes slick as Carly’s ultra rich boss, and John Turturro and his sidekick Alan Tudyk as a computer genius/ trigger-happy body guard, all add humor and humanity to the unbelievable plot and proceedings.

Listen, the point isn’t for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, to actually be potentially believable science fiction and it isn’t. But it does have a very clever premise based on facts about the U.S/ Soviet race to the moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin‘s infamous first walk and 21 minutes of non-communication between the Apollo 11 astronauts and NASA, while they performed their little moon walk. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin even shows up for a guest appearance. As for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley? She is annoying decoration but it’s not at all her fault. Her character is so blatantly written as an almost helpless damsel-in-distress who serves as a key motivator for Sam’s heroics, it’s truly cartoony. As such, she doesn’t do much except walk around in teeny weeny miniskirts and scream in fear at the appropriate times. Annoying Michael Bay, annoying.

Despite Rosie and the predictable plot, and the almost three-hour length, the film has a whole lot more going for it than some of the humorless action films we’ve been subjected to this summer. You won’t be bored and you may even have a summer crush on Shia… if you don’t already have one on Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth.

So get your 3D glasses on again and have fun!

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, 23, is all smiles as she checks out the playback with Shia, 24, after filming an intense scene for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. (And yes, that really is the title of the film.) After sliding down, rolling around, and narrowly escaping whatever the CGI magic team will have them running from, the cute costars seem just as close and friendly off-camera as they are on film.

Their chemistry should come as no surprise amongst rumors of a hot romance brewing between the two. Since recently splitting with girlfriend (and former co-star) Carey Mulligan, Shia has every right to be enjoying the company of the Victoria’s Secret model. Go ahead, Shia. Mix business with pleasure!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is scheduled for release on July 1, 2011.

Forget Megan Fox! Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has become the new Transformers maven, and our spies tell us the former Victoria’s Secret model and her on-screen love interest, Shia LaBeouf, have quickly become two peas in a pod… even when the camera’s AREN’T rolling.

“Everyone keeps calling Rosie ‘the new Megan Fox,’” one insider dishes to HollywoodLife.com. “Last Friday during the shoot, she and Shia kept laughing out loud together and the crew was desperately trying to get them to work. They seemed so distracted by each other!”

Rosie, 23, was chosen at the last minute by director Michael Bay to replace Shia’s former love interest, Megan Fox, in Transformers 3. The newly-paired couple shot scenes inside and outside of the Creative Artists Agency building in Century City, Calif., on July 2 — and insiders say the two leads have palpable chemistry.

“It’s a much more relaxed set and everyone is in a good mood,” one insider tells us, explaining that despite his seemingly easy-going approach, 24-year-old Shia takes his work with Rosie very seriously.

“Shia is loving Rosie’s work,” our spy dishes. “He likes the fact he is molding her, so to speak, in her acting debut. Shia is taking the job seriously on her behalf.”

Hopefully history repeats itself, BFFs! Shia never hooked up with Megan on set and we hope he doesn’t with Rosie, either, since he’s already taken by his Wall Street co-star, Carey Mulligan.
