Jimmy Fallon Signs Deal To Take Over ‘The Tonight Show’

Jimmy, 38, has signed with NBC to take over from Jay, 62.

NBC released a statement, which our sister site Deadline reported:

Jay Leno, longtime host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” announced today that he will wrap up what will be 22 years of headlining the iconic late-night show in Spring 2014.  NBC also announced today that Jimmy Fallon, now host of NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” will transition into new hosting duties on “The Tonight Show” franchise after Leno concludes his successful run.

As part of the transition, “The Tonight Show” will be returning to its original home in 30 Rock in New York and will be executive-produced by Emmy Award winner Lorne Michaels (“Saturday Night Live,” “30 Rock”).

Programming plans for the 12:35 a.m. (ET) time period currently are in development and will be announced soon.

“Jay Leno is an entertainment icon, making millions of people laugh every weeknight for more than 20 years,” Steve Burke, Chief Executive Officer of NBCUniversal, said. “His long reign as the highest-rated late-night host is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to his viewers and to NBC. We are purposefully making this change when Jay is #1, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was #1.  Jimmy Fallon is a unique talent and this is his time.  I’m thrilled he will become the sixth host of ‘The Tonight Show’ at exactly the right moment, in conjunction with our coverage of next year’s Winter Olympic Games from Sochi, Russia. I also want to congratulate and thank Debbie Vickers and her ‘Tonight Show’ team for producing an entertaining, first-class show every night for the past two decades.  Debbie’s role in the creative and popular success of this franchise cannot be overstated.”

Jay Leno Congratulates Jimmy Fallon

Jay said, “Congratulations Jimmy.  I hope you’re as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you’re the old guy. If you need me, I’ll be at the garage.”

Jimmy responded, “I’m really excited to host a show that starts today instead of tomorrow.”

Pregnant women are supposed to gain weight, but apparently not everyone is okay with reality star Kim Kardashian, 32, doing exactly that! She told Jay Leno, 62, on The Tonight Show on March 28 that haters have been harassing her for putting on the pounds, even though she is having a baby!

“I think it’s a little bully-ish to call a pregnant woman fat. I mean what do you expect? I hope I gain weight. I’m a little heavy,” Kim said on The Tonight Show on March 28.

Kim Kardashian’s Pregnancy Weight Gain: Not Worried About The Extra Pounds

Kim’s baby with boyfriend Kanye West, 35, is due in July, and she is happy gaining some pregnancy pounds because “there’s just more to love right now.” The mom-to-be puts her weight gain at around 25 pounds over the course of the past few months, but it isn’t bothering her at all.

“I have the rest of my life to be skinny and to lose weight, and I’m not really worrying about it. If I have a craving, I’ll go for it,” she said.

Critics Won’t Leave Kim Alone

Although the mom-to-be loves her pregnancy outfits, others seem to have a different opinion and are attacking her maternity style — and Kim is sick of it!

“I think it’s kind of mean just all the comments that I see, whether it’s, ‘she’s wearing heels!’ That makes me feel good and sexy at least being heavier so if that makes me feel good my baby will feel good,” Kim added during her interview.

“Talk has been made of a change from Jay to Jimmy, but not as serious as it’s been believed and hyped in the media because NBC is scared if they do it, they think that Jay would go elsewhere. So the announcement of a change is not imminent and they are more prone on signing Jay to another contract” a source told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

Jay, who is signed with NBC through 2014, may keep his job because, as another source told HollywoodLife.com, he has other outlets if a change occurs. We were told, “Jay Leno would be pursued immediately if he left NBC and a contract would be given to him from FOX. All he would have to do is say ‘Yes’ because Fox would be extremely interested.”

President Barack Obama sat down with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, Oct. 24, using the opportunity to humorously strike back at Donald Trump, mocking him on the same day Donald demanded he release his college records!

During the show, Jay asked President Obama why Donald holds such hostility towards him, Obama joked that their beef dated back to their youth in Kenya. “This all dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya. We had constant run-ins on the soccer field,” he said. “He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over.”

When asked if he was glad the series of presidential debates were over, he joked, “You know, I was sort of getting the hang of it.” About his poor showing in the first debate, he admitted, “We had to make some adjustments.”

Jay asked President Obama if Secretary of State Hilary Clinton would stay in the job if he is re-elected. “She’s done an incredible job. She has logged a lot of miles…I would love for her to stay,” the president said. “Despite my begging, I suspect that it’s time for her to spend a little more time with her family. She’s been a great partner…I could not be prouder of the work that she’s done.

About Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock and his remarks that rapes are part of God’s plan, Obama was very no-nonsense. “Well, I don’t know how these guys come up with these ideas. Let me make a very simple proposition. Rape is rape. It is a crime. These various distinctions about rape don’t make sense to me. The proud papa then showed a second shot of Exton in bright orange bottoms and a striped hoodie. Aww!

Ashley also admits that she was naive to fall for Bentley’s games, even though she didn’t know what he was saying about her at the time!

The day that player Bentley Williams walked out on Bachelorette Ashley Hebert, he left her completely destroyed — to the point where she didn’t know if she could go on with the show. But Bentley comes back in episode five — and Ashley tells Jay Leno on The Tonight Show June 16 that she had to see the bad boy one more time so that she would be able to move on and fall in love with one of the other guys!

“He left me with an open door saying ‘…’” says Ashley. “And I reached a point where I really felt like in order for this to work for me, in order for me to move forward in some of these relationships, I really need to figure this out and I see him again.”

But when Ashley made the decision to see Bentley again on the show, she didn’t know at the time about all of the horrible things he’d been saying about her behind her back. “At this point I had no idea what he was saying,” she recalls. “I know now, but I didn’t know then.”

Now Ashley realizes that it was a mistake to keep Bentley in her heart. “Looking back on it now, I’m going to have to say yes,” she admits. “I think I was a little naive and I think I saw what I wanted to see.”

Ashley also adds that the reunion with Bentley ”is not what [she] expected.”

After Kendra complained she hadn’t been invited to Hugh’s upcoming summer nuptials her former sugar daddy sent her a quick message to quell her fear — but should she go?

Kendra Wilkinson finally got her wedding invitation … sort of. The former Girls Next Door star and ex-girlfriend of Hugh Hefner went on The Tonight Show on April 14 and told Jay Leno that Hugh finally came through and invited her to his soon-to-be third marriage to 24-year-old Crystal Harris.

“I hadn’t gotten my invitation yet,” Kendra explained. “I was a little bit worried, so I put it out there into the universe—the media. You know, sometimes you have to use being a celebrity sometimes, get things out there and be like, ‘Where’s my invitation? Wink-wink.’”

But lucky for Kendra, who’s competing on Dancing With The Stars, Hugh wrote her a quick little email to try to smooth things over:

“Dear Kendra,” it read. “We haven’t sent any ‘Save the Dates,’ but if you can’t make the planned wedding on June 18, we’ll just change the date. Do you think I’d consider getting married without you being there?!

The ousted ‘Idol’ hits ‘The Tonight Show’ to belt out some hits!

Although she was kicked off of American Idol on April 7, Pia Toscano has been taking a long victory lap, singing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno after being offered a record contract!

The 22-year-old rocked the audience on the April 8 show, singing some of her favorites from Idol, including her stunning take on Tina Turner‘s “River Deep – Mountain High.” She also spoke to Jay about her elimination.

“It was definitely hard for me to sing that last song,” she said. “I was definitely a little broken up about it, but it’s a new day, and I’m in a better place now.”

We’re sure she is in a better — and better-PAID — place!
