Us short girls can be very restricted when it comes to the fashion police. We shouldn’t wear two colors, even two pieces is risky, and we should NEVER be revealing. Kim Kardashian violated these rules yesterday, July 21, at a friend’s home in LA and once again made it work.

Kim went with a long-sleeved lavender blouse with a bow draping down from the front. It was low-cut, but while it revealed the top of her chest it didn’t give her an over-busty or fake appearance. The tie-neck detailing helped her slide past this rule, otherwise it would have been too revealing, especially with her super-short skirt! When it comes to showing off, you shouldn’t put your legs and chest on full display, especially during the day!

She wore a high-wasted, white skirt to complement the blouse – normally not a good idea. However, the lace detail at the bottom showed elegance and made up for the lack of length. The outfit, complete with her nude peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps gave her a flattering look that was sweet and chic — she had her signature sex appeal while the outfit was something totally different for Kim!

I think it’s harder to find a totally put-together look for during the day rather than a glam get-up for a night out — mixing comfort and style could be tricky, you don’t want to look sloppy,yet you want to be outfitted in something practical. While on vacation in Aix en Provence in France, Jessica Alba mastered her casual chic look! I’m getting out of town for the weekend, and seeing this photo of Jessica makes me wish I had her outfit — it would be perfect to throw on during the day while I’m in the Hamptons. Her over-sized shirt is strategically tied, giving her get-up a modern twist while her cross body bag is both trendy yet practical since her hands are free. Seeing these items on their own, I might not have done a double-take, but Jess perfectly brought her look together. Shorts may be all the rage, but steer clear of this terrible take on the trend!

Some styles should never be revived! Seeing Blake Lively on the Gossip Girl set in NYC last week in a pair of floral culottes reminded me that in the spring I picked up a pair of the baggy, skirt-like shorts in a fun print, so I decided to break them out this weekend. While they were incredibly comfortable, they were quite possibly the most unflattering item of clothing I’ve worn in a while — I don’t think the high-waisted, flimsy fabric and extra material would do anything for anyone, and my friends were very quick to tell me to change. I looked more like an unstylish mom (ala Kate Gosselin) than a chic chick. I honestly do not know what I was thinking when I tried on the shorts and decided to purchase them!

Even Blake looks kind of awkward in the trend from the side — although if you insist on wearing them your best bet is to pair them with a simple top and a high pump or wedge, just like the star.

When it comes to hitting the beach, I like to consider myself a seasoned pro — I’ve perfected my personal beach babe style and can efficiently pack a beach bag in mere minutes! With summer winding down, this is the last chance you’re going to get to soak up the sun! So while you may have already stocked up on the perfect bikini and a roomy beach bag, you’re still lacking major essentials like a cover-up, shades, and sandals! Even if you’re a no muss no fuss type of gal, you obviously still need flip flops, right?

I personally think the most important accessory is the cover-up — you can easily feel super chic even if you’re barefoot without any makeup on! One of my go-to beach tips is keeping a summer scarf in my beach bag — if I decide to go for a quick stroll and don’t want to throw on my cover-up I can just tie the scarf around my waist like a sarong! When it comes to cover-ups, fun prints and over-sized shirts seem to be really popular this season, and don’t fret about mixing patterns — it’s one of the hottest trends, especially on the beach (just make sure the colors compliment eachother). If you want to accentuate your waist, simply add a rope belt that you can tie on. Since it’s a cover-up, you can go for a low neckline or opt for something super revealing, as long as you’re comfortable!

After you score the perfect cover-up, feel free to accessorize as much or as little as you want. Although I’m more laid back and strictly stick to my flip flops and shades, I’m seeing more and more fedoras and jewelry on the beach. Whether you like a floppy hat or something smaller, it’s definitely super practical and also very stylish at the moment — you can protect your precious skin while looking chic!

Even though I opt for minimal accessories on the beach, it’s always smart to keep a cool bangle or long necklace handy — with the right cover-up, you can easily take your beach babe self off the beach and somewhere casual and an accessory can really add some extra oomph! If you are in to accessorizing while you take the sun, I think gold tones look best in the summer. I also think you should keep it simple and stick to one or two statement pieces — don’t forget, you are on the beach after all!
