When we first met Abby (Cassie Steele) on The L.A. Complex, she was a starry-eyed girl ditching her Canadian boyfriend for the lights and promises of Los Angeles. But the second season finale found Abby coming full circle, choosing to leave L.A. behind for a new life in Germany with husband Gray (Steve Byers). Cassie spoke to HollywoodLife.com about Abby’s departure and the prospects of a third season for the fan-favorite drama.

That finale was nuts. What was your initial reaction to it?

“Even when [the cast] read the scripts, we were floored. But I do like that everything’s really flexible. Every character still has a lot of options, which is great, because so many things can happen.”

And how did you feel about Abby choosing Gray over L.A.?

“Well, she really did [come full circle.] She found someone she totally connects with, and I was excited to play a big romance.”

I’m sure those scenes with Steve must be so hard for you, always going from beds to hot tubs.

[Laughs] “They’re pretty awesome. We had a bubble machine at one point. It was too much fun.”

So you enjoyed their whirlwind romance?

“Oh, yeah, I just went with it. I’ve never been married [on TV] before, so I said, ‘Let’s do this!’ It’s really crazy, but it happened. And as crazy as it is, being a fighter pilot and all that kind of makes sense. The stakes are much higher for her.”

Well, you almost got married on TV once, right? Manny and Jay?

“Oh my God, I wasn’t going to say that. We never got married, just engaged.”

And on the flip side, Abby was never really engaged. It was just ‘Will you marry me?’ and then you were married.

“Precisely! It was just a drive to Vegas.”

In your mind, is Abby giving up acting, or just putting it on hold?

“I think it’s just on hold. Abby’s a free spirit, and she’s always been really strong and positive. She doesn’t let anything get her down. Everything about Gray looks so appealing, but after this life experience, I’m sure she’ll want to go back. What else is she going to do?”

Aside from Abby’s move, it seemed like the big stand-out moment was Kaldrick coming out online. How did you feel about that?

“I really liked it. I think everybody wanted that to happen. That’s where everything’s going right now. The world is letting this happen, and I think it was a step in the right direction for him to do that. Because he’s such a strong character, I feel like a lot of people will connect to him and [it will] make them brave. That was probably my favorite character’s ending.”

I know a third season isn’t guaranteed, but are you optimistic?

“Yeah, I’m pretty optimistic. But I just woke up, so I might be delusional. I don’t know, you can never tell with these things. I think the characters are really out there, but they’re also relatable, and the story lines are really interesting. I want it back, obviously, so we’ll see what happens.”

What would you like to see Abby do next, should the show get picked up?

“I hope she becomes an actress in Germany! She’s going there, and she doesn’t know where he is exactly. She’ll have to find him … in Germany. I really just want to go to Germany.”
