Remember that heated encounter between Bristol Palin and a heckler at Saddle Ranch last week? The one where he called her mom, Sarah Palin, a “whore” and “the devil,” to which Bristol replied, “Is that because you’re a homosexual?” Well, her heckler Stephen Hanks has decided to apologize. But should he really be the only one?

“I have come to the conclusion that no matter what my feelings are towards Sarah Palin, I should not have expressed them towards her daughter, Bristol Palin,” Stephen said Sept. 27 in a statement. “I am very passionate about politics, and believe in equality for all Americans. … I expressed my feelings in an improper manner in the heat of the moment, and allowed my emotions to get the better of me.”

OK, fair. We agree that Stephen was right to apologize for using that kind of language, unprovoked, against Bristol. But we also think she should have to apologize to him for the way she responded.

Two wrongs don’t make a right, Bristol! We’re sure your mother would agree.

Bristol Palin‘s shocking rant at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood, Calif. on Sept. 22 started when she got into a verbal fight with an on-looker who insulted her mother Sarah Palin. But when she said she thought the man was “a homosexual,” people were outraged. But now Bristol’s people are saying her words weren’t homophobic — but we REALLY don’t understand the logic!

Bristol, 20, attacked a 47-year-old consultant named Stephen Hanks, and her rep tells TMZ it was in self-defense.

“[Bristol] was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother,” her rep said. “Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family. The situation ended with no incident, and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views.”
