Jon Bon Jovi: Daughter’s Heroin Overdose Was ‘Worst Phone Call Ever’

Bon Jovi opened up to Katie Couric on March 15 about the terrifying experience he felt when his daughter Stephanie, 19, suffered a drug overdose in her dorm room. He revealed how she is doing on — read on to find out what he said.

Superstar Jon Bon Jovi, 51, sat down with Katie Couric, 56, to discuss his daughter Stephanie Bongiovi’s, 19, November 2012 heroin overdose. He told Katie about that terrifying phone call he had to get and the bigger picture of it all.

“Worst phone call ever,” Jon tells Katie about the call he got regarding his daughter’s drug overdose in her college dorm room.

Jon Bon Jovi: Kids Have A ‘Lot Of Pressure’

A few months have passed, and Jon says that “she’s doing great” and that he truly “appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayer,” but this problem is a lot larger than he thought. He sees first-hand that a lot of people are dealing with drug abuse, not just his daughter.

“In short, that problem is much more of a problem than I knew and I can’t get over how many people have said ‘My son, my daughter,’” Jon continued to tell Katie. “There is a lot of pressure on kids these days.”

Bon Jovi On Raising His Daughter, Stephanie

After Stephanie’s incident with heroin abuse, Jon spoke out to the Associated Press about trying to raise his daughter well with his wife Dorothea Hurley, 50.

“So you bring her up the best you can, you surround her with hugs and kisses and know that she may eventually fall down,” Jon told AP on Dec. 3 about the difficulties and struggles of raising a daughter.

Bon Jovi Shocked By Stephanie’s Drug Problem

With no idea what was going on, Jon was completely “shocked as much as the next parent with this situation” when he found out about Stephanie’s difficulties with heroin.

It’s been a difficult time of trying to recover for Stephanie, but Jon says the whole family is trying to push on through.

“I’m just blessed she’s healthy and whole and we’ll get through it,” Jon tells Katie in the interview.

Jon’s daughter, Stephanie Bongiovi, had drug possession charges against her dropped on Nov. 15. We hope she’s recovering after her overdose.

A day after Jon Bon Jovi‘s daughter Stephanie Bongiovi was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 14 for drug possession, following an alleged overdose on heroin in her dorm room at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, she had all charges dropped against her, E! News reports.

The Oneida County District Attorney’s Office announced on Nov. 15 that it was dropping the charges against Stephanie, 19, and friend Ian Grant, 21, who was at the scene and was allegedly involved in the overdose as well.

The D.A. says the charges were dropped because of a New York law, which came into effect in September 2011, that specifically prohibits prosecution of people who experience a drug overdose, as well as the people who help them seek medical care.

Stephanie was charged with heroin possession after police reported a small quantity of heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia found in her dorm room.

The 19-year-old was allegedly was found alive in her dorm room and has since been arrested after cops reportedly found heroin and marijuana.

Cops got a call that Jon Bon Jovi‘s daughter Stephanie Bongiovi overdosed on heroin, and was immediately rushed to the hospital, according to TMZ.

When the Kirland Police Department arrived at the Hamilton College dorm, Stephanie was found alive and they searched the room and found a “small quantity” of heroine, marijuana, and “drug paraphernalia”.

Stephanie was then arrested and charged for possession of a controlled substance, before being released from custody. Stephanie is the oldest of of Jon’s four children.
