Prescription drugs were found in his system, but the dosage was not lethal.

Two months after British screenwriter Simon Monjack, 40, was found dead in his Hollywood home May 23, coroners have finally determined the cause of his death — acute pneumonia and severe anemia. Ironically, his wife Brittany Murphy died of the same causes in Dec. 2009.

“Just like Brittany,” Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed to CNN, there were some prescription drugs in Simon’s system, but not enough to be considered lethal.

Though the preliminary findings have been released, the full report has yet to come out.

Brittany’s mother Sharon Murphy said these findings should “stop the reckless innuendos that my daughter and son-in-law misused any kind of prescription medications. … It is with great relief that Simon’s preliminary autopsy findings have been released, so the media speculations can stop. As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany, there was no kind of drug overdose.”

Brittany died Dec. 20, 2009 of pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication. Brittany had been using the prescription pills to treat a respiratory infection.

Wow, this is some kind of crazy. Before her death, Brittany Murphy was closer to her mother, Sharon Murphy, and husband Simon Monjack, more than anyone in the world. Curiously, however, the actress left everything to her mom and nothing to her hubby, reports TMZ.

The actress, who died Dec. 20 2009 at the age of 32, left a handwritten will in her manager’s safe. Additionally, she had a drafted a more formal letter after she married Simon in May, 2007. In this version Simon, 40, agreed to be excluded from the will. Brittany wrote, “I am married to Simon Monjack who I have intentionally left out of this will.”

Understandably, Sharon put Brittany’s Hollywood Hills home – where the actress died — up for sale on Mar. 1. She’s seeking $7.25 million for the 8,000 square-foot home that her daughter purchased from Britney Spears for under $4 million in 2003.

Multiple prescription drugs were found in Brittany’s system at the time of her death.

The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office released actress Brittany Murphy’s full autopsy report Feb. 25 and the new information reveals her death was an accident and her system was full of prescription drugs.

Radaronline.com gave a breakdown of what drugs were listed in Brittany’s autopsy report: Propranolol, Hydrocodone, Phenazopyridine, Fluoxetine, Dextromethorphan, Chlorpheniramine were in her stomach and while there were methamphetamines in her urine and in her blood/heart.

Brittany, 32, was known to suffer from severe anemia and other conditions. She had been treated by doctors for these medical issues, but the last time she went to the doctor was months before her death. When Brittany was first found dead in her LA home on Dec. 20 several pill bottles and medications were found all over the house under her husband Simon Monjack’s name, her mother Sharon Murphy, along with Brittany’s own prescriptions.

According to the new report no illegal drugs were found in her system. “The possible adverse elevated levels of these medications can not be discounted, especially in her weakened state. Therefore the manner of death is accident.”

The LA County Coroner issued a preliminary autopsy report Feb. 4 Brittany Murphy’s stating Brittany’s death was “accidental caused by community acquired pneumonia,” iron deficiency anemia, and “multiple drug intoxication.” But the big thing to point out is the coroner is saying Brittany’s condition prior to her death was ‘treatable.’

Brittany was best known for her roles in films like Clueless, Uptown Girls, Just Married, and Girl Interrupted.

Reports say Brittany Murphy could have lived had she gotten help sooner, but her husband is surprised by coroner’s results.

Simon Monjack has spoken out after the L.A. County Coroner released details of the cause of his wife Brittany Murphy‘s death on Dec. 20 and he claims he and his mother didn’t take her to the hospital — even though she was suffering from pneumonia — because she was “not that ill” the day she died.

“Everything [surprised me and Brittany's mom about the report],” he told People on Feb. 3, “I expected [the cause of death] to be her heart.” The reports says Brittany, 32, died from pneumonia, with multiple drug intoxication with “iron deficiency anemia” contributing to her death. Had Brittany gone to the doctor, the coroner says her life could have been saved.

Initially Simon, 39, and Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy, said they believed her death was attributed to a congenital heart murmur but where quick to slam rumors that the actress had an eating disorder or was a drug abuser. As Simon tells People, in his eyes she was “not that ill,” suggesting that he never thought her symptoms were fatal,”She wasn’t coughing up. I’ve had pneumonia and coughed up handfuls of spittle. So yeah, everything surprised us, everything.”

When asked how he feels about reports that her death was preventable, Simon responded, “I don’t know what he said so I don’t want to comment on what I haven’t seen. Case closed, as the coroner said, there’s no foul play.”

Hollywoodlife.com made an attempt to speak with Simon at his Hollywood Hills residence, but he was unavailable for comment.

Brittany Murphy’s grief-stricken mom and husband appeared on Larry King Live last night to talk about her tragic death — and they didn’t seem entirely lucid.

The late Brittany Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, and mom, Sharon Murphy, appeared on Larry King Live Jan. 20, discussing Brittany’s tragic death, one month ago on Dec. 20, at age 32.

The pair discussed the details of her death, repeating their claim that the young actress died of natural causes, and that she did not do drugs or have an eating disorder. The autopsy performed just after her death was inconclusive, and the toxicology and tissue test results have not been released yet.

Losing a loved one suddenly, at such a young age, is a horrible tragedy, and we can’t imagine how terribly sad the two must feel. That said, they seemed distant, and their responses to King’s questions weren’t always 100% rational.

‘You want to know what broke Brittany Murphy’s heart? Hollywood broke Brittany Murphy’s heart,” Simon told King.

“You wake up in the morning and it’s like a rebirth. It’s… there’s not enough time to… your dreams, be they good or bad, when you wake up and I reach out to touch or hold my wife and she isn’t there.”’

They showed the camera crew around their house, the same Hollywood Hills house where Brittany died, and showed off some of the large, framed photographs of the late actress.

“I’m comforted by these photographs,” Simon said. “I’m comforted by the transformation from girl to woman that I witnessed.”

Um, is it just us, or does that sound a little bit creepy?

Ten different prescription drugs were found at the scene of her death, many of which have been linked to other celebrity deaths (here’s our list). Simon claimed that some of them were his, and that Brittany was “terrified of death” and wouldn’t even drink champagne on New Year’s Eve.

Our hearts go out to Simon and Sharon who are obviously still devastated over the loss of the young, incredibly talented actress. As Simon said, “I think the dust will settle, the truth will come out. I think people will come to realize the genius of Brittany Murphy and come to regret the way they treated her while she was alive.”

Could you miss the funeral of someone you loved so much?

Brittany Murphy will be laid to rest tonight during a private funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, but there’s one family member who says he won’t be attending — Brittany’s estranged father, Angelo Bertolotti. He tells Radar Online he never received an invitation to the ceremony, and even if he did, he says he would probably still be too sad to attend. “I just don’t want to see that happen,” he says. “I just want to remember her alive.”

Bertolotti and Brittany’s mom, Sharon Murphy, are divorced, and he has been estranged from his daughter for about eight years. Still, he says, he will honor her memory by visiting her grave when he feels he’s ready: “I’ll wait about a month to go out there.”

“Brittany was just a doll, she was good to everybody,” he says. “She was just a big-hearted girl, it’s a shame that she had to go like this. … She had health problems, that was a fact, but nothing that I thought would come to this.”

Could a cocktail of prescription medications have caused Brittany’s death?

An investigator’s report from the L.A. County Coroner’s office revealed a shocking account of Brittany Murphy’s last moments – and the unnatural amount of prescription drugs found at her house.

Brittany “had been complaining of shortness of breath and severe abdominal pain” for 7 to 10 days before her death, reports TMZ, but attributed the pain to menstrual cramps. According to the notes, from LA Investigator Blacklock, Brittany went into the bathroom on Sunday morning, shut the door and never came out. An hour later, her mother, Sharon, went to check on her and “discovered the decedent lying on the floor unresponsive.” Brittany’s husband, Simon Monjack, heard her mother’s screams, went to help and called 911. By the time the paramedics had arrived, Brittany was “without signs of life.”

Found on the scene, as per the Coroner’s report, were an unnatural amount of prescription meds in Brittany’s name, as well as many empty bottles in Simon’s, Sharon’s and unidentified names.

The medications included: Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and various vitamins. No alcohol containers or drugs were found.

Sharon, our hearts go out to you during this unimaginably difficult time.

A few hours after her son-in-law, Simon Monjack, returned from the hospital, Brittany Murphy‘s mother, Sharon, also came back to the couple’s West Hollywood home, where she joined other family members and was spotted looking completely devastated.

“The family is very distraught,” Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for L.A. County, told HollywoodLife.com on Dec. 20. “They are asking for privacy and there will be no spokesperson. No one will be coming out tonight to speak [to media].”

Winter tells us that authorities have launched a death investigation and the next step will be to perform an autopsy on Brittany, even though Simon strangely did not want one, according to TMZ. We’re glad the coroner will be going through with it; we can’t imagine what mom wouldn’t want to find out why she lost her daughter at such a young age.

Winter added the coroner’s office is aware that the actress had a previous “medical history,” though he declined to specify what exactly they knew. Along with the autopsy, he says toxicology tests will be performed, but Brittany’s family and the public probably won’t be getting answers anytime soon. The entire investigation, he says, may take up to six weeks.
