Cate Edwards, 31, revealed in a new interview on Today on March 29 that even though she was completely hurt and devastated by her dad John Edwards‘ affair, she was always there to support him — and considers his love child with his mistress Rielle Hunter part of her own family.

“He’s my dad, I love him, we love each other and we support each other,” Cate told Savanah Guthrie on Today about her dad, and his torrid affair while running for political office. When he confessed the cheating to his family, Cate said it was an extremely difficult part of her life.

“I was devastated and I was disappointed. I grew up with a lot of love in my family..it was hard to see them go through this.”

But Cate said even though there was a lot of anger in her family, she never went through a period of not talking to her father

“It’s easier to stay angry than to forgive someone. It was tough, but we worked through it.”

Cate Edwards: Frances Quinn Is ‘My Sister’

Despite John’s affair with his former campaign videographer Rielle, Cate says their child together, Frances Quinn, is still very much a part of her family — and reveals they have a relationship.

“Yeah, she’s my sister. She’s just a really sweet, innocent little girl. I certainly think of her as part of our family.”

Cate Edwards – you must feel so betrayed by your father John Edwards. You stood by his side every day at his trial for illegally using campaign contributions to cover up his illicit affair with Rielle Hunter.

Your loyal and unswerving presence no doubt helped convince jurors of your father’s innocence.

But how did he repay you? By allowing the mistress that destroyed his marriage to your mom and who tore your family apart , to write a book, What Really Happened, that assassinated your mom’s character.

That’s why I’m proud of you for allegedly putting your foot down with your father, according to the new issue of the National Enquirer.

“It’s either her or me!” sources say that you Cate, 30, told your father. You insisted that he finally dump Rielle for good or lose his relationship with you forever.

Now HollywoodLife readers, I have to interject to say that the National Enquirer is the media outlet which actually broke the entire story about the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair as well as Rielle’s pregnancy with now daughter, Quinn, 4. So they’ve been on the money in their reporting about John Edwards and Rielle up until now.

In any case Cate, you had to be beyond furious when Rielle published her book, which contains vicious attacks on your mother, Elizabeth, who tragically died of breast cancer in 2010 at the age of 61. Rielle has the nerve to call your mom a “witch on wheels,” as well as describing her in such choice words as “venomous” and “crazy.”

Rielle even goes so far as insisting that Elizabeth Edwards drove John Edwards to cheat by not sleeping with him herself. “You don’t go through two-plus decades of extra-marital relationships unless both parties are responsible,” Rielle writes, revealing that lover boy John had been a long-term, repeat cheating louse.  ”My thinking is that if you aren’t having sex with your partner, the chances are high that someone else is.”

In other words, Rielle gave herself permission to hop into bed with your dad – it was Elizabeth’s fault that he had needs.

No daughter, who has had a normal, loving relationship with her mom, could read what her father’s lover wrote for the world to see, without her stomach churning.

In fact Cate, you must have felt like your father kicked you in the stomach, when you read what Rielle wrote about your mom, and her affair with your dad. What a low blow! It’s even worse than the original betrayal of cheating on your mom.

After all, your father knew that Rielle was writing this book. He probably read it multiple times before it was published which means that he passively approved of it, even though he had to know how hurtful it would be to you and your two younger siblings, Emma Claire, 14, and Jack, 12.

That’s so thoughtless and selfish.

You’re absolutely “disgusted, sickened and revolted by the comments Rielle has made in her book about (your) brave, beloved mom,” according to the Enquirer‘s source. And that’s exactly how you should feel. Those are normal feelings.

Plus, your dad had no sooner been exonerated after his trial, that he had photos taken of himself with Rielle and Quinn and released to the media.

It was a clear “announcement” to the world that he and Rielle were in fact still a couple after pretending that the romance was over for all these years.

But not for long. Rielle broke the news in her Good Morning America interview with George Stephanopoulos on June 26, that she and your father had broken up.

“We are a family but as of last week, John Edwards and I are no longer a couple,” she revealed, while she also annoyingly added that she still loves him.

I suspect that your ultimatum worked Cate, and that he finally, five years later, put his relationship with you and your siblings ahead of his torrid romance with homewrecker, Rielle.

He may have been too unprincipled and wimpy to stop his lover from assaulting your mother in her book, but at least, he’s finally trying to stop the hurt.

Good for you Cate, for allegedly standing up to your thick as a brick dad, for yourself and for your two younger siblings. Your mom Elizabeth is applauding from heaven!

Barbara Walters wants to set the record straight. John Edward‘s infamous mistress Rielle Hunter took center stage on the June 26 episode of The View and it was an epic cat fight between Rielle and the longtime news woman.

Barbara told Rielle that she had a “bone to pick” with her when she read in the book What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me. Because in the book it claims that Barbara yelled at Rielle when she told her that she wanted to do an interview with Oprah for spiritual reasons.

“I’ve made people cry,” Barbara said. “But never screamed.”

But Rielle stood her ground and said: “I remember that differently. You were about to go away on vacation and you didn’t want to lose my interview before you went away on vacation. This is not the first time nor will it be the last that two people remember an event differently.”

In an explosive new interview John’s baby mama reveals that their romance is over — read on to find out what happened!

Rielle Hunter and John Edwards are over! The disgraced mistress told GMA‘s George Stephanopoulos on June 26 that she and the former Presidential candidate have called it quits.

“We are a family but as of last week, John Edwards and I are no longer a couple,” she candidly revealed. When asked if they love each other this is what she said: “I do … you’d have to ask him that. I feel that he does.”

Rielle was on the program to discuss why she wrote her recent tell-all book: What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me.

“It’s because I’m no longer interested in hiding,” she said. “Hiding our relationship. Hiding, not living out. We had a lot of media scrutiny. I don’t know if you noticed or not. And it’s complicated and it’s hard it wears you down after awhile.”

Rielle who has a four-year-old daughter Francis Quinn with John wouldn’t reveal why or how the relationship ended. But she did describe it as “hard and painful.”

Rielle Hunter didn’t just humiliate Elizabeth Edwards by indulging in a torrid affair with John Edwards and getting pregnant with their love child. No, she set out to assassinate the character of Edwards who can’t answer back to Hunter’s charges that Elizabeth was “venomous” and a “witch on wheels.”

She claims in her new book that Elizabeth was controlling and abusive to John, that he wasn’t having a sexual relationship with her any longer and that she drove him into the arms of other women, like… oh yes, Hunter.

Well, isn’t this convenient for Hunter and John, who clearly are still romantically involved with each other. The former vice-presidential candidate can now justify his illicit, marriage-busting affair with Hunter. His wife “made” him do it.

I can tell you this – John Edwards and Rielle Hunter were, in fact, made for each other. They are equally selfish louses.

There’s absolutely no justification for launching a full-on assault on Elizabeth. Rielle — you have said you feel it is your “duty” to John’s three children with Elizabeth to write the book which reveals your side of the story.

Guess what, Rielle and John: Cate, 30, Emma Claire, 14, and Jack, 12, will NOT thank you. No, they will detest you for attacking the mother they love. And they will feel horribly betrayed, especially by you, John – their father.

Instead of protecting them from hurt and protecting their privacy, you have now just exposed the most painful chapters in their young lives to the entire world. You have revealed your weakness of character, your infidelity and yuck, your disgusting sexual obsessions and habits.

The very last thing they want to read is how the sex between you and Rielle was so hot on your first night together that you did “it” all night long. Giant TMI!

John – I can’t believe how Cate gave you support, sitting with you day after day in court during your recent trial on campaign corruption charges, and this is how you thank her – letting Rielle publish this vile book.

I’m not saying, John and Rielle, that you can’t at this point continue your romantic relationship. If you love each other, you should be together, especially to raise your innocent young daughter, Frances Quinn, 4.

But you should have just done that quietly and kept totally silent about Elizabeth and the past.

John – you are extremely rich. Rielle, you’ve said that you need money and no doubt wrote the book to make it. But John – you can support her and Quinn and should be doing just that. So I guess that on top of being a lying and cheating, wife-attacking husband, you are also cheap.

That’s just so pathetic.

I really hope John that allowing Rielle – yes, you allowed her – to write this vicious book, is worth hurting and alienating your three precious children with Elizabeth. Because that’s exactly what you’ve done.

You’ve ruined your chances of ever being President. Now you’ve also destroyed your role as a father!

As if Rielle Hunter hadn’t already caused Elizabeth Edwards enough strife before her passing, she’s set to cause even more. The former mistress of disgraced senator John Edwards has written a book entitled What Really Happened and she’s not demonstrating any ounce of tact or restraint when it comes to Elizabeth.

According to ABC News, Rielle depicts Elizabeth as a woman who was constantly angry with her husband, always “barking” orders at him. Rielle alleges that she was “crazy” and a “venomous” “witch on wheels,” given to fits of “rage.”

Rielle shows very little sympathy for Elizabeth’s alleged behavior, claiming she “was bonkers because she had been in denial” about his cheating. And she doesn’t just mean her affair with John.

No, she alleges that she was one of many, saying that John had confessed to having had additional affairs before 2004, but that he led her to believe she was his last.

The book, due out June 26, is both a wholehearted defense of John and a tirade against Elizabeth, whom Rielle blames for pushing John into his affairs, ABC News reports.
