After six weeks of testimony and the nation’s obsession with this case for the past three years Casey was acquitted on July 5 but attorneys now reveal how the mom who never reported her daughter missing, escaped conviction.

Casey Anthony was found not guilty and she’s almost a free woman. Now that you’ve picked your jaw up off the floor, HollywoodLife.com has learned why this verdict isn’t that shocking. Casey, 25, was found guilty of four counts of “providing false information to law enforcement officers” but acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter in 2008.

“I wasn’t surprised with the verdict at all,” legendary criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos tells us. “I just think you’re hard pressed to convict someone when you don’t know the cause or manner of death. From the beginning I thought the motive on the prosecution’s side was silly …  to be free? That argument made no sense and the fact that the jury was sequestered allowed them to focus on the lack of evidence.”

New York attorney Raoul Felder agrees and believes that the case should never have even been tried.

“They should never have prosecuted the case because there was nothing specifically tying her to the crime,” Raoul says. “There were too many theories. Her attorney José Baez did a good job and the judge was very tough. It’s very tough to convince a jury that a mother murdered her own child.”

What were some of the prosecutions theories that both Raoul and Mark believe only damaged their case?

“They had an expert at one point bottle the air … it was absurd. Then they said that the ‘dog knows.’ You can’t cross examine a dog,” Raoul says.

Mark agrees: “That was the first time something like the bottled air was allowed in a courtroom … it was nonsense. The dog was nonsense. It reeked of desperation on the part of the prosecution.”

Both attorneys also point out that it’s very tough to prove to a jury that a mother killed her child.

“I never thought Casey would get first degree murder,” Mark says. “First of all it’s a mother and a daughter. Jurors are low to give death in these kinds of cases and number two you had her family members supporting her. Normally in a murder case you have the victims family screaming for blood and you didn’t have that in this case and that makes a difference.”

Raoul adds: ”The defense showed photographs of a very loving mother. The more time a case is in court the more time the jury has to observe the defendant. They observed Casey and she came across as pathetic. You don’t send someone to jail or to death that you bond with.”

What does Mark, who has defended Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and politician Gary Condit believe?

“I don’t think anyone knows what happened … it’s a very difficult question,” Mark tells us. “It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if George Anthony came forward one day and revealed that in fact it was an accident. I think someone in that family knows what happened. It’s a safe bet that someone knows what happened to Caylee.”

Although you may always believe that Casey is guilty … it doesn’t matter.

“I’ve learned in all my years to abide by the verdict of the jury,” Raoul says. “The defense felt that this was going to be an acquittal. The people in the jury didn’t think that she murdered her daughter. She may have been convicted int he court of public opinion but not in court.”

What’s next for Casey now that she’s awaiting her sentencing on July 7 for lying to authorities?

“Everybody lies to the FBI … but she may be convicted there,” he says. “Look at Scooter Libby … the only thing they got him on was lying. She’ll probably get three years and time served.”
