Rachel Bilson On ‘Cosmopolitan’ — Get Her Flawless Skin

Rachel relies on Celebrity dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman to make sure her skin is always picture perfect. Here are Dr. Jaliman’s top five tips for looking better instantly!

1) Always take off makeup before bed. “I cannot emphasize this enough. Never go to bed without cleansing your face. If you don’t, the results will be clogged pores and breakouts. If you’re really too exhausted to wash your face with water and cleanser, at least have cleansing pads by your bed and use them to wipe makeup off,” recommends Dr. Jaliman.

2) Don’t forget to exfoliate. Gentle cleansers can be used daily, while thicker scrubs or masks can be used once or twice a week.

3) Pay attention to your makeup. “People with acne cannot use heavy foundations and oily concealers, period. I’ve had several celebrity clients whose acne did not clear up until I personally spoke to their makeup artists — all that heavy TV makeup was ruining my carefully prescribed skincare regimen. Every major makeup company now makes oil-free and non-comedogenic foundations. People with very oily skin can use mineral foundations, which keep skin matte longer.”

4) Use anti-aging products before you see wrinkles. Start using retinols, antioxidants and collagen boosters in your late 20′s.

5) Cool your cosmetics. Storing makeup in the fridge instead of a hot and steamy bathroom will make it last longer and keep the ingredients from deteriorating.

It may be fall but forget about basic black, the stars were all about bold colors at the Fun Size premiere in LA on Oct. 25, where both Rachel Bilson and Victoria Justice turned up wearing vibrant dresses!

Victoria rocked a sleeveless yellow Versace dress with a peplum from the Fall 2012 collection. A red lip, sleek strands, David Yurman ‘Starlight’ ring and pointy black Versace pumps completed the simple yet oh-so-chic ensemble. I like how she didn’t overdo it with the accessories — the color really stole the show!

While Victoria opted for a sexy yet sophisticated dress, Rachel was all about looking sweet and chic. The star turned up in a one-shoulder jacquard dress from the Preen Resort 2013 collection. A stamped print, pleats and slant pockets all added a touch of feminine flare that Rachel seems so drawn to. A pair of grey pumps from her own Shoemint line completed the ensemble.

Sometimes stars play it safe in basic black dresses, and the red carpet can seem a bit drab this time of year — however, I’m so glad that wasn’t the case last night!

Rachel Bilson, 30, regularly turns to Debra Jaliman, M.D. board-certified dermatologist and author of the new book Skin Rules to keep her skin flawless.

Here, Dr. Jaliman shares her top tips for complexion perfection:

TIP #1: REMOVE MAKEUP BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP “I cannot emphasize this enough: Never go to bed without cleansing your face. If you don’t, the results will be clogged pores and breakouts. TIP #2: EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE: “Even the best skin in the world will look dull if it is not well exfoliated. You can exfoliate on a daily basis with your cotton washcloth or a disposable cotton pad and a cleanser. If you have normal or oily skin, in addition to your daily exfoliation, once or twice a week use something stronger, like a scrub with fine granules or microspheres,” advises Dr. Jaliman.

TIP #3: THE WRONG MAKEUP CAN MAKE ACNE WORSE: “People with acne cannot use heavy foundations and oily concealers, period. TIP #4: DON’T WAIT UNTIL WRINKLES APPEAR TO START USING ANTIAGING PRODUCTS: “Collagen production starts decreasing in the late twenties, so that’s when people should start using retinols, antioxidants and collagen boosters, especially around the eyes,” says Jaliman.

TIP #5: STORE YOUR MAKEUP AND SKINCARE PRODUCTS IN THE FRIDGE: “The warm, steamy environment of the bathroom makes products deteriorate faster. If you have very expensive creams or have bought several jars of lipsticks that you don’t use every day, keep them in the fridge for best results,” recommends Dr. Jaliman.
