Quentin Tarantino is no stranger to controversy, and the Django Unchained writer and director definitely stirred up the drama backstage at the Golden Globes by saying the N-word in a room full of people.

The director has come under fire ever since Django Unchained premiered, with many people insisting that the 100-plus times the racial slur is uttered in the movie is unnecessary and over-the-top.

But Quentin believes it’s important factor in telling the slave-era story about hatred and intolerance, especially in the South. So when he tried to defend himself and his movie yet again against the vulgar word, he said it in the press room backstage at the Golden Globes.

The usually noisy and chaotic room fell silent after Quentin uttered the phrase, according the The Hollywood Reporter, with only audible gasps and shocked whistles from reporters in response. And the writer and director wasn’t apologizing.

“They think I should soften it, that I should lie, that I should massage.” he said about critics who didn’t think him using the slur so often in the film was appropriate. ”I would never do that when it comes to my characters,” he added.

Quentin Takes Home Golden Globe For Best Screenplay

The Hollywood Foreign Press didn’t seem offended by Quentin’s controversial use of the N-word in his film Django Unchained — he took home the Golden Globes for Best Screenplay, and actor Christoph Waltz won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in the film.

Spike Lee has criticized Quentin Tarantino’s work in the past, and now, the director says he’d be disrespecting his ancestors if he were to see the slavery revenge flick Django Unchained. He’s boycotting the movie because he finds it insulting.

“American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them,” Spike wrote on Twitter.

“I can’t speak on it ’cause I’m not gonna see it. I’m not seeing it,” Spike also said in a video interview with VibeTV. ”All I’m going to say is that it’s disrespectful to my ancestors to see that film. That’s the only thing I’m gonna say,” he explained. “I can’t disrespect my ancestors. I can’t do it. Now, that’s me. I’m not speaking on behalf of anybody but myself. I can’t do it.”

Spike Has Criticized Quentin’s Work In The Past

Spike, 55, has criticized Quentin’s work in the past, voicing his disgust for Tarantino’s liberal use of the n-word in Jackie Brown, a 1997 movie starring Samuel L. Jackson.

“I’m not against the word. And some people speak that way. But Quentin, 49, is infatuated with that word,” Spike said of Quentin in an interview with HollywoodLife.com sister company Variety.

“What does he want to be made, an honorary black man?” the Do The Right Thing director asked. “I want Quentin to know that all African-Americans do not think that word is trendy or slick.”

1) The performances are amazing!

The whole cast is incredible, but Leonardo is a clear standout as the SUPER evil bad guy. It’s a performance that will leave his longtime fans shocked and makes him an obvious contender for an Oscar.

2) The film is a throwback to classic Hollywood!

Quentin set out to make a Spaghetti Western, and Django feels like it could have come straight out of that era. It’s a sprawling tale that fits comfortably alongside the most beloved cowboy movies of the ’60s.

3) There is a ton of humor!

Perhaps you wouldn’t expect jokes from a movie that graphically illustrates the horrors of slavery, but the partnership between Django and Dr. King plays out as a warped buddy cop comedy. The clever ways they go about bounty hunting — and their ability to escape tight situations with racist locals — brings some light moments to what could have been a suffocating film.

4) The action is incredible!

It wouldn’t be a Tarantino movie without some gunfights and absurd violence, and this film doesn’t disappoint. The action is not for the squeamish, but even the most seasoned action movie fans will be on the edge of their seat during the film — especially during a massive showdown near the film’s end.

5) The soundtrack is so unique!

Quentin loves to experiment with music in his movies, and even though this movie is set in the 1800s, contemporary artists like Rick Ross and John Legend feel right at home with wild west-themed contributions.

Patricia Arquette is one lucky mommy this holiday season. Even though her 7-year-old daughter, Harlow, seems to be asking for a lot of different presents this year, the one at the top of her list is to spend time with her mama! “For the holidays, Harlow’s list changes every day, and every day there’s another thing on the list,” Patricia, 42, told HollyBaby.com at Quentin Tarantino‘s Friar Roast sponsored by Samurai Love Sake in NYC on Dec 1. “She wants to come to New York with me.”

Patricia has plans to make Harlow’s wish come true, and has an action-packed schedule in mind. “I’d take her to FAO Schwarz and make a Barbie,” she tells us. “And then it goes down a little runway, and they announce it like, ‘Here’s Harlow’s Barbie’ and she’s wearing a pink shirt.”

Are you as stoked as we are to see April Rhodes back at McKinley High?

Great news, Gleeks! It looks like our favorite celebrity guest star Kristin Chenoweth, 42, will be returning for a third appearance on the show! “Yeah, I’ll be back in the spring,” Kristin told HollywoodLife.com exclusively Dec. 1 in NYC at Quentin Tarantino‘s Friar Club Roast, sponsored by Samurai Love Sake. “I have to go do a movie, then I’ll do Glee!”

We can’t wait to see Kristin’s character, high school dropout April Rhodes, back in the halls of McKinley High School.

Unfortunately, Glee is the only song-and-dance show we can expect to see her on — she doesn’t want to participate on Dancing With The Stars! at least “I hope not yet,” she confessed to us. “I just hope not yet. Maybe 10 more years.”

Bummer! Well, at least we’ll get to see Kristin on Glee!

Neve is surrounding herself with family & friends while she goes through her second divorce.

After three years of marriage, Neve Campbell has filed for divorce from her husband, 36-year-old actor John Light. Though Neve lives in London, she quietly filed the petition in a Los Angeles court June 30. HollywoodLife.com caught up with the actress Dec. 1 at Quentin Tarantino‘s Friar Club Roast sponsored by Samurai Love Sake in NYC — and it sounds like she’s already looking toward happier days!

Neve, 37, has big plans to spend the holidays forgetting about her heartbreak and moving forward.

“I’m spending it with friends and family,” Neve told us. ”I’m glad. … We [are going to] cook some nice meals and see some music and theater.”

And even though London is full of memories from her failed marriage, Neve’s love for the foggy city hasn’t taken a hit.

“My favorite thing to do [in London] is go to the theater,” Neve told us. “I’m seeing Merchant of Venice here [in NYC] tomorrow night with Al Pacino. There’s nothing in particular jumping at me at home yet, but I love it.”

Neve just wants to focus on the good things in her life at the moment, telling us, “My only holiday wish is just to have a nice time with my friends.”

Neve’s first marriage to Jeff Cult ended in 1998. She met John two years later while filming the movie Investigating Sex in 2001 and the two married on May 5, 2007.

We’re glad to see Neve up on her feet and looking amazing. We just hope she keeps up the brave face as she goes through this trying time.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have never shied away from the fact that their 4-year-old daughter, Shiloh, is a tomboy at heart — she even prefers to be called John. In the new Star magazine, a Jolie-Pitt nanny and family insiders tell all about the combat boot-loving kid. “She loves to roughhouse and mud wrestle,” a nanny tells the magazine. “She thinks she’s one of her brothers,” agrees Angelina, 35. The little girl didn’t even cry when she lost a tooth during a tussle with her brothers last year!

Unfortunately, Shiloh’s big sister, Zahara, 5, has been on the receiving end of the little girl’s playful pranks. “Shi was playing cowboys and Indians one day and cut the heads off of a bunch of Zahara’s dolls!” says the insider. “When one of the nannies found her, she said it was an unprotected village, so she had to scalp them.” Wonder if she picked that up from dad Brad, who happily collected scalps in the 2009 Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds? Of course, when Brad, 46, found out about the incident, he made Shi apologize to her sister. How would you have handled the situation, HollyMoms?

Does Shiloh play with too many weapons?

Taking care of Brangelina’s brood is no easy task for their team of nannies, especially when Shiloh’s older brothers Pax, 7, and Maddox, 9, get in on the action. “Once, the three of them tricked a nanny into sitting on a chair covered with wet paint,” reveals the insider. “Shiloh was falling over laughing.”

Shiloh definitely wants to be one of the boys. She likes to wear their hand-me-downs — including boxer shorts, says a source close to the family. And she loves weapons, especially swords – just like Maddox.

That all sounds like normal sibling behavior to me, but I do think it is a little strange that Shiloh is fascinated by dead animals. We recently reported that Shiloh asked her mom if she could keep a dead bird as a pet, but Shiloh doesn’t just want one dead pet — according to Star, she wants a zoo filled with dead animals! Gross! “She also told her nannies she wants to see a dead person up close,” explains a source. “Brad said absolutely not, but Angelina is all for Shiloh’s morbid curiosity.” I don’t really think it’s such a good idea for Angelina to encourage her little girl to see deed people. Shiloh clearly does take after her mom in many ways — she’s been spotted out and about wearing temporary tattoos. I wonder when Angie will let her get a real one?
