The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice, featuring Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) ex-wife Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), miracuously lasted six seasons and will culminate after 113 episode — a feat that many shows could only hope to achieve.

Creator Shonda Rhimes used her own website, Shondaland, to make the sad announcement, saying:

“I’m sad to say that Private Practice’s run will end after episode 613 this season. There was a lot of discussion and debate but, in the end, the guys at the network and the studio and I all decided that Private Practice was reaching its finish line. Creatively, we are all extremely proud of the show and especially proud of this season — which you will all soon discover is a creative renaissance. I can’t wait for you to see it.

“It’s heartbreaking to end. Truly. I feel so lucky to write for these characters and tell these stories and I truly feel this show has taught me so much as a writer. And there’s a family here, of crew and cast, people who have bonded over these past five and a half seasons. It’s rare for a show to go for more than 100 episodes and we are incredibly proud to have been such a show. And we’re grateful to all of you for spending time with us for an hour every week for the last 6 years. It’s meant the world.

“Thank you.”

Kate announced she would be leaving the series, regardless if the show continued past the sixth and current season, on an episode of Bethenny in June.

“It’s been an incredible journey and an amazing ride,” Kate said at the time. “I feel incredibly grateful to [Private Practice creator] Shonda Rhimes and all the fans that have been there from day one ’til now.”

We suppose the network could not envision a Private Practice without its star. Can you?

Rumors of Kate Walsh‘s departure from Private Practice have been buzzing for a while, but now it’s official: The upcoming sixth season of the ABC medical drama will be Kate’s last. The actress made the announcement on Bethenny Frankel‘s syndicated talk show Bethenny on June 12.

“It’s been an incredible journey and an amazing ride,” Kate said. “I feel incredibly grateful to [Private Practice creator] Shonda Rhimes and all the fans that have been there from day one ’til now.”

Yes, being a glamourous Hollywood star is amazing, but Kate is filled with regret about not being a mom!

Kate Walsh may have achieved her dream of being a star on the huge hit Private Practice, but she tells More magazine her life is empty without children!

“I feel like a loser [for not having kids]. I would definitely love to be a parent,” the 43-year-old beauty says. “But I definitely don’t think I want to do it on my own.”

Many fans would be envious of Kate’s professional success, but she says she envisioned a more traditional family.

“I thought I’d be married and have three or four kids,” she says. “I always knew I wanted to be an actress, but I think I always wanted a quote-unquote ‘normal life.’”

It looks like Kate will have to wait a little longer to start a family, given that her nasty 2009 divorce from Alex Young left her weary of jumping into a commitment.

“I’ve learned to seek other people’s counsel more,” Kate says. “That’s a good part of growing up.”

Kate is so beautiful—she certainly has plenty of time to find the right man and have kids!

KaDee Strickland tells HollywoodLife.com how her character’s storyline on Private Practice has changed her real life and her mission!

HollywoodLife.com‘s Kirstin Benson caught up with the beautiful KaDee Strickland at John Varvatos‘ 8th Annual Stuart House Benefit in West Hollywood March 13, who told us how playing a rape victim on Private Practice has inspired her to make real life changes.

“It’s been life altering. I’ve been to Capitol Hill and I’m going back. I’m working on the SAFER Act,” KaDee, 35,  said. “When you feel like you’ve done something that allows someone to feel like they’ve been helped, it’s the best feeling in the world.”

We love meeting actors with a positive message. Charlotte’s rape storyline was one of the most heart-wrenching and memorable plots on TV all season — it’s refreshing to hear it’s translated into good things in the real world too.

Kate had enough of her shoes at the Golden Globes so she decided to ditch them — she even carried them around on the red carpet!

Can you relate? Kate Walsh, 43, was wearing a pair of sky-high pumps, and I guess she definitely couldn’t wait to get them off! The actress didn’t even bother trying to keep her gorgeous satin Brian Atwood stilettos on long enough to snap a few pics at the end of the night! Now that is brave!

I wonder if her character, Dr. Addison Montgomery on Private Practice, would consider that move very sanitary!What do you think? Is this totally acceptable or a less offensive — but still tacky — version of Britney Spears’ gas station moment? You tell us!

OMG — we thought it was Charlotte and Cooper who were going to tie the knot this season…but it’s actually a completely unexpected couple!

Prepare yourself for a shotgun wedding on the season premiere of Private Practice, BFFs! Yep, that’s right: one couple is going to find truly wedded bliss at last!

Violet Turner (Amy Brenneman) and her baby daddy Pete Wilder (Tim Daly) have gone through hell and back over the course of the last two seasons – and now they’re finally going to get their happy ever after – and we get to witness their wedding!

“As far as I can tell, it’s amazing sex. They have this rockin’ sex and the next thing you know, Pete is saying, ‘Hey, let’s get married,’” actor Tim Daly told TVGuide.com‘s Natalie Abrams, adding, “These characters have been through so much stuff that has been so dramatic, so once they finally broke through and set down all their weapons, they realize they actually love each other.”

It’s about time! For those of you non-PP junkies, here’s the skinny: Violet and Pete had a baby together, but Violet was violently attacked while she was giving birth and their baby was stolen. Flash forward a whole year and Violet is STILL a complete wreck, but has finally come out of her catatonic state. Pete is dating Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh), but realizes he’s just settling and lonely. Violet and Pete get back together…and finally all is well.

“I’ve known this dude for 12 years and we’ve been through so much, so I would imagine it would go very fast,” actress Amy Brenneman explained. “That said, it is also true that Violet has never wanted to get married, just like she never wanted to be a mother.”

Yikes! Does this mean there’s trouble in paradise right from the start of the honeymoon phase? That’s just wrong! We sincerely hope not…these two deserve happy times. Private Practice premieres Sept. 23.

Is your child afraid of the water? Amy tells you how to help them conquer their fear!

Teaching your kids how to swim can be a scary process — for both you and your kids — but because it’s important to know for their safety, it’s just something you have to do. So how should you do it? “I just kicked [my kids] into the pool,” Private Practice star Amy Brenneman, 45, explained to HollywoodLife.com exclusively June 9 at the Digitas Digital Newfront Conference in NYC. “They sunk to the bottom. The kids are freaked out, and then they’re coming out swimming!”

“We [also] did the floaty thing,” Amy said. “There’s also this lady named Mrs. B, who’s like this hot Australian lady. Literally, sign up for these two weeks” and the kids are experts!”

Amy taught her kids — Charlotte, 9, and Bodhi, 5 — to swim “pretty young [at like] 2 or 3.”

“We’re LA babies, so we’re in the water all the time,” Amy explained. “We swim a lot in LA. I try to be really ecologically minded, but I do keep my pool warm. It’s awesome! So, if anybody is rowdy or cranky, including myself, we just get in that water.”

Amy’s kids are her everything, but she also has to balance her work life along with her home one. Her best advice to other moms in similar situations is: “Don’t try! Step away!”

“I truly think it’s a one day at a time thing, and the way I think of it is: there’s a big, rowdy dining table inside of me,” she said. “At that table is the perfect mom, the career girl, the wife AND the SLUT. They’re all there. I have to listen to them all and everybody has a valid voice. And, then one day at a time you make the best decisions that you can.”

Fun tip about Amy: ironically her  “go-to person” on the set of Private Practice is also her best friend on the show. Amy talks to Paul Adelstein, who plays Dr. Cooper Freeman, about “everything: how insane I am and [even] my cellulite!”

Should she have gone without makeup? I could NEVER imagine walking a red carpet with no makeup on like Kate Walsh, could you?

Ok, I am admittedly a makeup addict. I mean, I’m a beauty editor so it kind of a necessary evil of the job. This means I NEVER leave the house without some sort of makeup on. Unless I’m going straight to the gym and back home there’s no chance of prying me from my apartment without some foundation, concealer and mascara at the bare minimum. So, when I saw Kate Walsh on the red carpet, yes, the red carpet without anything on her face I freaked. She wasn’t out walking her dog, getting the mail, popping into Starbucks or picking up her dry cleaning when a paparazzi snapped her photo. No. She was walking a red carpet! The Private Practice star was in NYC for the premiere of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston on Apr. 20 when she decided to go sans makeup. I just really don’t get it. If I’m ever to walk a red carpet, I will sure as hell be wearing more makeup than Ru Paul. Admittedly, I’m not blessed with as gorgeous skin as Kate but still, how could she walk a carpet without mascara at least? It just goes against all my beauty sensibilities to 1. go out in public without makeup and to 2. voluntarily have my photo taken looking like that! What about you?
