In a shocking start to the Nov. 29 episode of The X Factor, Paige Thomas was sent home for having the lowest number of votes this week. Even though her performances are always mediocre at best, there’s no way she should have been sent home before CeCe Frey. No way.

But it gets crazier: Both Fifth Harmony and CeCe got through to next week! I guess it was a small price to pay to get Vino Alan in the bottom two, huh? He and Diamond White had to sing for survival. She took on Beyonce‘s “I Was Here” while he sang his audition song “Trouble,” which I’ll even admit was pretty good.

Still, I was happy that Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell agreed to send Vino packing. Like I expected, the little tantrum he threw to L.A. Reid over some constructive criticism didn’t sit well with America. So long, creeper!

Paige Thomas surprised fans when she sang Britney Spears’ very own breakup song “Everytime” during the Nov. 21 episode of The X Factor.

Paige was asked by our very own reporter Russ Weakland if she was nervous to sing Britney’s tune, allegedly about her breakup with Justin Timberlake, in front of her. “I’ve been a fan of [Britney's] for so long, so when I found out that she was one of the judges it was one of the main reasons I auditioned. Every time she’s played Arizona I have seen her, she’s amazing. And when I heard that song, I was like yes, I have been dying to do a Britney Spears song. It’s one of her best songs ever.”

Awkwardly, the song is allegedly about Britney’s public and very sad split from Justin Timberlake in 2003. While Paige was a bit worried about that, she didn’t let it stop her from singing the song.

“I was worried about that. Like I said, I am a Britney fan and after initially hearing the song I felt cool, let’s do it. But when we started working on it I thought this is going to hurt me or help me. To me that song is not about breaking up, I see it more about my dark past meeting the future positive me. Shedding one persona and moving into a new light. But right before I went on stage I told my vocal coach I was so nervous. I couldn’t believe I was doing it, am I crazy? But life is about taking risks and if you don’t you never know what you can do.”

Paige Thomas may be riding high as she serenades millions on The X Factor, but her life beforehand was very different. Paige lost her own mother at the age of seven, became homeless at 14, then gave birth to her daughter Jade (now 3) when she was 19.

Paige tells Star, “I endured so much during my childhood, and it would have been easier to just give up, but there was something telling me I shouldn’t end it. I cried a lot and I prayed a lot. My mother died in a car accident on Christmas Eve when I was 7, and my father just couldn’t deal with the pain.”

Paige then became homeless, and spent several years moving between friends homes until she realized she was pregnant just after she completed high school.

“My daughter wasn’t planned and completely changed my life,” she says. “Cheerleading and track were my passions and I had scholarship offers, but I had to take a different path.”

However, Paige has no regrets.

“I want other young women with children to know that regardless of what people say, they should follow their dreams,” she says.

Paige Thomas, 21, opted for an icy look beauty look with snowy-white lips, dark dramatic eyes and a spiked headpiece that looked like icicles.

Her dramatic transformation stunned viewers, but with her edgy personality, we think Paige looked like an icy HOT princess on stage.

For The X Factor‘s second round of boot camp Oct. 4 , contestants went head-to-head in a battle round after working with vocal coaches. Some singers stood out while others just, well, just stood there.

The Battles Begin:

Carly Rose Sonenclar and Beatrice Miller, both 13, were the first pair to hit the stage with “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster The People. I think Beatrice was sweet, but Carly was just so damn good. (Doesn’t she seem, like, 25?) She may have oversung it a tiny bit, but she also got the better part of the song. It was really a toss-up with these two!

Roommates and tattoo enthusiasts David Correy and Vino Alan battled next with Marvin Gaye‘s “What’s Goin On.” While both were decent, Vino threw his hat down at the end of it like he messed up. The judges seemed confused (as did I). “He scares me a little bit,” Britney confessed. What she said.

Next were Diamond White and Dinah Jane Hansen. (OMG, THE LOVE ACTUALLY SOUNDTRACK!) I don’t know why they threw that in the background, but I’d like more of that please. Anyway, the ladies took on a ballad version of “What Doesn’t Kill You” by Kelly Clarkson. Poor Dinah messed up the lyrics, but she still sounded great. Diamond, on the other hand, is a complete firecracker. Love her!

Mess & Mediocrity:

That strange sister group, intelligently named Sister C, was up next against some girl named Lauren Jauregui. I have no idea what song they sang — they didn’t really show it — but Britney Spears said it best: “I think Sister C’s annoying.” Yes, Britney. Yes. Simon Cowell accused her and Demi Lovato of just being catty, but Sister C really did suck.

[Insert equally annoying Pepsi product placement nonsense that no one wants to see.]

Country crooners Willie Jones and Tate Stevens battled with “Nobody Knows,” which was appropriate, because Willie didn’t know his lyrics. He completely messed up the song, which I don’t understand. Why would you pick a song you didn’t know? “Tate hussled him,” L.A. Reid said. (Ah, I see what’s going on there.)

Former season-one contestant Arin Ray sang a lovely slow version of “What Makes You Beautiful” with Normani Hamilton. They had great chemistry, and obviously Demi thought so too. “My heart just melted,” she said. (Anyone else think Arin and Normani would make a cute couple?)

Lost Lyrics:

Meanwhile, my favorite contestant Jillian Jensen was up against a very confident LaTasha Robinson. But as soon as LaTasha started singing Sugarland‘s “Stay,” she lost her way and started bawling. Because Jill is a sweetheart, she tried to help her with the lyrics, but it was too late. Then Jill came in with a chill-inducing verse that made me tear up immediately. Demi looked like a proud mother while LaTasha got bitchy and hysterical. “That little 19-year-old girl just stood there and outshined me.” Come on now. That’s just mean!

But she wasn’t the only one to forget her lyrics. Other favorites from the audition round – Freddie Combs, Jordan Shane and Nick Youngerman — also lost their way mid-song. I’d be surprised if any of them get through.

The real battle came when, once again, crazy-pants CeCe Frey went up against Paige Thomas. Paige was nervous because CeCe picked the song “Secrets” by One Republic, which she didn’t know. Paige missed a few words and CeCe missed a few notes, but Paige is WAY more likeable. CeCe is just… awful. I don’t think she’d ever win over America. (Not sorry, just being honest.)
