This is just so depressing. Casey Royer, 52, former Social Distortion drummer and current member of the punk band D.I., was with his 12-year-old son when he overdosed on heroin last week in Orange County. Law enforcement officials tell TMZ.com that his son ran out for help and alerted neighbors, who called police. Casey was immediately hospitalized, survived and was arrested soon after.

Law-enforcement sources say Casey’s house was strewn with garbage and drug paraphernalia, including needles.

Casey was charged today with one count of child endangerment and one count of being under the influence of heroin. He was released on $120,000 bail.

This is a horrible situation and we feel for Casey’s son. No kid should ever have to witness things like this.

Can you imagine losing your closest friend without getting to say goodbye?

Actors Corey Feldman and Corey Haim became best friends more than twenty years ago when they worked together in the movie Lost Boys in 1987 and continued to collaborate until they had a falling out in 2007 due to Haim’s drug use. Following Haim’s sudden death due to a reported accidental drug overdose March 10, Feldman, 38, therapeutically blogged about his best friend and “brother,” saying he was so distraught with tears, his eyes wouldn’t open.

“I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face.

I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful,beautiful,tormented soul, who will always be my brother,family, and best friend.

We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time.

While Hollywood mourns the loss of ’80s idol and actor Corey Haim, our heart especially goes out to one person — Haim’s longtime and childhood pal, Corey Feldman.

Haim’s death actually marks the loss of two of Feldman’s close pals in under a year — he was also good friends with superstar Michael Jackson, who died of heart failure due to a Propofol overdose on Jun. 25, 2009.

At the time of Jackson’s death, he and Feldman — who began their friendship in the ’80s — were not on speaking terms.  Sadly, the situation was similar with Feldman and Haim.

Feldman and Haim co-starred together in several movies together, including: The Lost Boys, License to Drive, and Dream a Little Dream. In fact, they were so commonly recognized as an intertwined duo, they earned the name “The Two Coreys.”

But Haim always felt that he lived in Feldman’s shadows, a subject that was a part of their A&E reality show The Two Coreys.  But by early 2008, the two had stopped speaking. Feldman said he would not speak to Haim until he got sober, and told People magazine, “As a friend and somebody that cares deeply about the guy, I’m not going to watch him destroy himself.”  Haim insisted that was 10 months sober at the time of the falling out, but admitted he was still dealing with the pain of having been sexually abused as a child.

Strangely, Feldman also had a falling out with Michael Jackson in the years before his death. In 2005, Feldman spoke out against Michael Jackson and the child molestation charges the pop star was facing. In 2008 Feldman said his relationship with Jackson had “damaged” him, though he was distraught over the news of the King of Pop’s death. He told the press that Jackson “was his idol.”

Feldman has not yet responded to Corey Haim’s death, but surely he is deeply saddened by the news.  —Corynne Steindler

25 family members and close friends gathered at LA’s Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn Memorial Park to remember and say goodbye to the 32-year-old actress.

Brittany Murphy was buried at a private service in Los Angeles yesterday, Dec. 24, with about 25 mourners in attendance.  The service was co-denominational, with both a rabbi and a pastor leading the service; the Kaddish, a traditional Jewish prayer of mourning, was recited, and “Amazing Grace,” the spiritual, was sung.

The service was complemented with music, including renditions of “My Funny Valentine” and, perhaps most poignantly, Brittany’s own version of Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile,” according to Radar.

Husband Simon Monjack remembered that Brittany’s favorite phrase was “thank you” and added, “She was always grateful for everything. She’d always want you to celebrate her life.” Actor Eric Balfour, a close friend, and brother Simon were among the pallbearers.

Brittany died on Dec. 20 of apparent cardiac arrest, though the official cause of death will not be known for several weeks.

UPDATE: Brittany’s family released the following statement about her life and yesterday’s service:

“Today a wife, a daughter, a niece, a cousin, a family member and dear friend to thousands was laid to rest. Brittany was an incredibly loving and passionate person and an artist to her core- she loved acting, singing, dancing, and performing. There are no words that can truly express the devastation felt by Brittany’s husband, mother, and everyone who attended the intimate service.

“At the funeral, Simon described his loving relationship with Brittany and how she was his best friend and soul mate. He went on to say that mystery is the nature of love, and you never know when or where it will strike or how quickly it will be taken from you. He also said that he knows the closeness and beauty of their love will live on forever.

“Several of Brittany’s closest friends and her cousin also recalled their favorite memories, concluding with an excerpt from The Little Prince, one of her favorite books.

“Brittany’s body was interred at Forest Lawn at twilight with the reading of the Kaddish and the singing of Amazing Grace. A bright light that lit the world is forever dimmed, but will live on in the hearts of those that Brittany touched.

“Christmas was Brittany’s favorite holiday. So the family asks that all those who wish to honor her light a candle and remember the beautiful angel that entertained, enlightened, and made the world a better place.

“Born 1977 – Died 2009. Brittany Murphy is survived by her husband Simon Monjack and her mother Sharon Murphy.”

Do you believe Simon Monjack when he says he has no idea what killed his wife?

Since Brittany Murphy’s shocking death on Dec. 20, the spotlight has been hot on her husband of three years, Simon Monjack. What would he say regarding the various empty prescription pill containers found in her name on their nightstand? Why did she stop seeing most of her old friends when they got married in April 2007?

Simon has finally decided to address the rumors., the first being that Brittany died of an overdose. “I can get rid of that [rumor] right now,” he says to People, claiming that his 32-year-old wife was simply trying to shake a bout of laryngitis.

“She was on herbal remedies that wouldn’t speed up her heart,” Simon says. “There was nothing here that could endanger her; there was prescription medication in the house for her female time and some cough syrup. That was it.”

The night before Brittany’s death, Simon says the couple watched screener movies so she could submit her vote for the Academy Awards; her mood didn’t seem anything out of the ordinary. “She was tired and a little sad because she was sick,” Simon maintains.

He also tries to explain why he so vehemently opposed an autopsy — something that fueled speculation about his and Brittany’s peculiar relationship. “My initial reaction to the autopsy was — they’re going to cut her open — I couldn’t bear it. That would break her mother, but we realized we needed to know. I look forward to getting the results.”

In the expectedly emotional interview, Simon says he wishes people would stop hyper-focusing on Brittany’s noticeable weight loss. “These rumors that she was anorexic? It’s crazy – she was slim, but that was her natural physique,” says the screenwriter.

Brittany reportedly told reporters on her last red carpet Dec. 3 that she wanted a baby in 2010. Simon confirms that the couple was trying to get pregnant, but because of her fast metabolism, Brittany needed to gain weight first.

Ultimately, Simon reveals that he’s completely in the dark as to what happened to his wife. “Her mum, myself and her family – we want to know why we lost our baby.”

Dakota Fanning told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY: “Brittany had such a warm, child-like spirit that drew people to her. With her goes a piece of my heart, and I will miss her terribly.” Dakota and Brittany starred together in the 2003 girly comedy Uptown Girls, when Dakota was only 9 years old.

Another of Brittany’s co-star’s Kathy Najimy — who starred with her on King of the Hill — tweeted, “Worked w/& knew Brittany for 14 years (& played her mom once as well) sweetest most talented angel who got hooked up w/ wrong people. We love u brit. So sad this is truly a waste. Feeling regret we didn’t do more. I love you so much Brittany and always will.”

The Fox cartoon comedy  was cancelled on Sept. 13 of this year, and Kathy played the voice Peggy, while Brittany played her daughter, LuAnne.  As for Kathy’s concerns about Brittany being connected to “the wrong people,” reports of possible drug use are being kept at bay. Currently, an autopsy on Brittany is underway reports TMZ, while Radar Online says that the LAPD is continuing their investigation, and have not yet ruled out a drug overdose as a possible cause of death.

Earlier, other former co-stars of Brittany spoke out about the tragedy as well.  Her Just Married co-star, and former boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher tweeted, “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine.  My deepest condolences go out to Brittany’s family, her husband, and her amazing mother Sharon … see you on the other side, kid.”

Alicia Silverstone, who starred alongside  Brittany in her break-out role in Clueless released a statement saying, “I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together.  I feel love in my heart for her and hope she is at peace. This is truly sad.”

Denise Richards also went to Twitter to mourn: “Brittany Murphy was in Drop Dead Gorgeous with me and was the sweetest and most adorable.Tragic, sad & Devastating. Her poor family.”
