This is the first child born to a ruling French leader since Napoleon! Wow!

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy gave birth to her first child with Nicolas Sarkozy Oct. 19, according to People. The 43-year-old French First Lady  delivered around 8 p.m. at the Clinque de la Muette.

The baby girl’s name is unknown, and Carla has said she won’t be releasing photos. She claims the French people wouldn’t be interested in them!

Carla and Nicolas married in February 2008, and they both have children from previous marriages.

UPDATE: The couple have announced the name of their newborn daughter! It’s Giulia! In her announcement, Carla wrote “I am deeply touched by the many messages of congratulations that I have received since the birth of our daughter.”

Carla Bruni reveals her pregnancy is a “coming happiness” but was “unexpected and unhoped for” Wow! The former model is rumored to be 5 1/2 months pregnant with her first child with French President Nicolas Sarkozy — and the bump she showed off on the vacation this week is growing fast!

At 43, she may be an older mom — but with a figure like that, you’d never know it!

Well, there’s no more hiding that pregnancy now! Carla Bruni, 43, revealed her blossoming and beautiful bikini bump while vacationing in France with husband President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56. So, is she ready to confess she’s expecting yet?

Her father-in-law Pal Sarkozy initially spilled the beans on the pregnancy, saying, “I’m glad to be having a grandchild. I’m certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla.”

Carla is already a mom to son Aurélien, 10, from a previous relationship while Sarkozy is dad to sons Louis, 14, Jean, 25, and Pierre, 26.

France’s First Lady put her baby bump on display at the G8 Summit on May 26, stroking and rubbing it as she met other delegates. Hurry up and tell us you’r pregnant, Carla!

Amazingly Carla Bruni has yet to confirm she’s expecting her first baby with French President Nicolas Sarkozy! But surely now it’s just a matter of time!

She’s been teasing us for weeks, wearing loose-fitting clothes and skipping the Cannes Film Festival, “for personal reasons,” but Carla, 43, went into hint-overload at the Deauville summit today.

With world leaders in attendence, including President Obama and his wife Michelle, Carla pushed out her bump and caressed it for the cameras, squeezing into a tight-fitting maternity dress for the first time since the pregnancy talk started.

With the pregnancy puzzle solved, there’s now only one question left on our lips…. is it going to be a boy or a girl?

Those close to the First Couple can’t agree. President Sarkozy’s dad Pal is convinced the pair are expecting a girl. He told German newspaper Bild: “Neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I’m certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla.”

But French businessman Jacques Seguela – a close friend of the Sarkozys — has told the French media Carla’s expecting a boy!

The ex-model has kept us guessing for three weeks since the rumors first surfaced — and it’s taken her father-in-law to finally let the big secret slip!

The baby will be Carla‘s first with French president Nicolas Sarkozy, whom she married three years ago — and the couple’s fifth altogether!

“Neither wants to know the gender beforehand, but I’m certain it will be a girl, and beautiful like Carla,” Pal Sarkozy tells German newspaper Bild.

That could just be wishful thinking — the couple already have FOUR sons between them! Carla, 43,  has a ten-year-old from a previous relationship and the 56-year-old president has three sons from his first marriage.

No one in France will be surprised by the baby news — the First Lady has been dropping hints for months, appearing in a string of loose-fitting outfits and skipping the Cannes Film Festival for “personal and professional reasons.”

She’s also refused to deny she’s pregnant when pressed for an answer by French reporters. When one recently asked her outright, she replied, “If you’ll allow me, I’d rather not answer these questions about my family.”

Cynics have suggested the baby may be a plan to boost Sarkozy’s waning popularity in the French press — but we think it’s great news regardless.
