Sofia Vergara, 40, desperately wants a baby with her boyfriend Nick Loeb, 37, so she froze her eggs to ensure their dream can come true. However, the sexy Modern Family actress revealed that she won’t be the one to carry the baby — she’ll have to use a surrogate because of a serious medical condition.

Sofia Vergara: I Will Have To Use A Surrogate

Sofia opened up in the June issue of Cosmopolitan why she has to use a surrogate, and the details behind her fertility treatments.

“I had to go to my doctor’s office a hundred million times to do injections. The [rumor] probably came from that,” she revealed in the magazine. “My doctor had told me ‘We have a small window.’ I said, ‘That’s so rude!’ I already have a kid, so I never thought I would need to do that. But I will have to use a surrogate, because I had thyroid cancer and lots of radiation. I don’t want to wait forever, but not yet, because I’m working like an animal.”

Sofia Vergara & Nick Loeb Welcoming A Baby Soon

A source close to the couple revealed to Page Six in March that the couple is trying to have a baby soon, especially because Nick is desperate for a child of his own.

“A baby is something they’ve both wanted for a while, particularly Nick, who has been pushing for it. He is a little uneasy that the surrogate is Sofia’s close friend, but is very excited about becoming a father,” the source told Page Six. “The child will be biologically Sofia and Nick’s baby, and she has selected a surrogate — who is a very close girlfriend — to carry the baby,” the source revealed.

Sofia Vergara, 40, dropped by Good Morning America on April 17 sporting her new blonde locks, and revealed how after getting engaged to Nicholas Loeb, 38, last July, the couple is so excited to have their first child together — so she’s freezing her eggs to have a baby!

The 40-year-old actress said on GMA she froze her eggs because at her age, she wanted to ensure that she and her fiance start a family together:

[At] 40-years-old nothing happens that naturally anymore… we just wanted to plan ahead. My boyfriend is two, three years younger than me, and he never had a son. I have my son, Manolo, so it’s not that import–it’s not like an emergency for me to have a baby for Nicholas because he’s never had a baby, [but] I wanted to make sure. I already froze some eggs. I wanted to take advantage of science.

And Sofia cracked a joke that her eggs were already on ice! She said:

I took them out already, they’re in the refrigerator.

Between working and planning a wedding, the Modern Family actress said that having another baby isn’t at the top of the couple’s list of priorities right now:

We don’t want to plan too much. It’s difficult, you want to be excited, and then it doesn’t happen. So we’ll just wait and see what happens.

Sofia added that maybe next summer they will have their baby, but after they buy their house first.

The couple has reportedly gone through a procedure with their surrogate already, but have yet to know if it was successful, according to Page Six.

“The child will be biologically Sofia and Nick’s baby, and she has selected a surrogate — who is a very close girlfriend — to carry the baby,” the source explained. “A procedure has taken place, and Sofia and Nick will find out in a few weeks if it was successful, if the surrogate is pregnant and if they will become parents.”

The source reveals why Sofia, who is the mom to her 21-year-old son Manolo, wants another baby.

“At this stage in her career it’s too risky for her to be pregnant and take her out of the sexy roles that she’s getting right now,” the insider reveals. “She would lose her figure and at her age there’s no guarantee that she would ever look the same.”

Sofia and Nick have been dating for three years, and got engaged last summer while visiting the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza to celebrate her birthday.

Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb‘s 2013 got off to a rough start. The couple, who got engaged in July 2012, was ringing in the new year at Miami club Story when they got into a very public heated argument.

“Sofia stepped in to try to calm the situation, but somehow she ended up getting pushed and shoved also,” a source tells the New York Post. “Her strapless dress was torn or pulled down in the melee, exposing her cleavage in front of other people and her son Manolo who was so offended he left the club. It was crazy.”

The source adds that tensions were already running high because the party the couple was attending was hosted by Sofia’s ex-boyfriend Chris Paciello, which threw Nick into a jealous rage.

“Nick seemed tense around Chris, who was hosting them in the VIP section, even though he and Sofia are just friends,” a witness claims. “In the early hours, Nick and Sofia were arguing before he got into a dispute with somebody at a neighboring table. Some pushing and shoving started.”

Nick, 37, was thrown out of the club, and Sofia, 40, accompanied him.

“Things got pretty heated, but she was never hit,” another source recalls. “Nick was pretty bruised from struggling with security. None of the drama was Sofia’s fault, but despite the big scene [Loeb] created, they made up outside the club, and she took him back to their hotel.”

Nick Loeb is planning to throw a surprise engagement party for himself and Sofia Vergara — this weekend, HollywoodLife.com has learned EXCLUSIVELY.

The party will be held this Saturday, July 14 at a house that Nick own in Southampton, New York.

Sofia and Nick were engaged while the two were celebrating her 40th birthday in Mexico with 90 of their friends and family. Nick, 36, reportedly proposed while Sofia and a large group were sightseeing at the Mayan archeological ruins of Chichen Itza.

According to the NY Post, Nick proposed with an 8-carat sparkler from the Manhasset jeweler’s Two by London collection. Store owner Scott Udell says, “I worked with Nick personally to design the ring, and we tried to make it a reflection of Sofia. It is a beautiful three-stone ring. The center stone is square, a 7-carat cushion-cut diamond. It has two diamonds on the side, and the brilliance of the three stones together makes it look like a 10-carat ring.”

Nick is a former financial executive who created and launched a food topping company called Onion Crunch last year. His father is John Loeb, a former U.S. ambassador to Denmark and United Nations delegate who comes from one of the wealthiest families in America. Nick’s paternal grandmother was a member of the prominent Lehman family.

Nick and Sofia have been dating on and off for two years, since having met at a Golden Globes party in 2010.

Sofia Vergara has a lot more to celebrate than just her 40th birthday. New reports say that she’s engaged to her on-again love Nick Loeb.

Sofia, who is currently celebrating her birthday at a Mexico resort with 90 loved ones, first hinted at the engagement when she showed off a diamond ring in a photo on a friend’s Twitter account. Us Weekly reports that sources have confirmed the good news.

This will be Sofia’s second marriage. She married Joe Gonzalez as a teen, with whom she has a 20-year-old son, Manolo. Sofia and Joe divorced in 1993.

The ‘Modern Family’ star got us all excited when she was snapped shopping for the mommy-to-be supplements at an LA drug store this week.

Just weeks after Sofia Vergara revealed her boyfriend Nick Loeb is begging her for kids, she was spotted stocking up on pre natal vitamins. Surely that means she’s pregnant. Right?

Sources tell E! News the 39-year-old actress ISN’T expecting — she buys the vitamins because the mixture of calcium and iron is great for her long lustrous hair!

Apparently it’s a common practice in her native Colombia.

We can’t say we’re not disappointed — but we haven’t compleltely given up hope this pair will have a beautiful baby before it’s too late.

Sofia, who has a 19-year-old son, Manolo, from a previous relationship, said recently, “When I had Manolo, I was 19, and I had the energy for everything. My boyfriend now wants to have kids, and I don’t even want to think about it. I would have to get into that mind-set again, the waking up early.”
