What are your top three tips for achieving the perfect manicure?

1. “Use a protein nail strengthener to not only strengthen the nails against splitting and cracking but to also put protein oil back into nail bed.”
2. “To keep your manicure long lasting during the summer months, make sure to apply cuticle oil either every day or every other.”
3. “Be sure to use a hand and cuticle cream daily to restore moisture to your hands.”

What are your top three tips for achieving the perfect pedicure?

1. “You can mix Vaseline with lotion to give you long lasting moisture to prevent cracked/dry heels.”
2. “You should always put oil on your cuticles every other day so your pedicure can stay fresh and moisturized.”
3. “The trick to maintain and prolong color is to use a primer on the toes before you apply the color.”

Do you have any tips for making mani/pedi’s last?

“If you plan on spending most of your summer in a pool or the ocean and want to make the most of your mani/pedi, be sure to add an extra clear top coat to protect the color from chipping. The top coat will seal in the color and prevent it from chipping too soon. Do NOT use a protein or nail strengthener over your color as this will cause the polish to crack and chip easily.”

A new ad for the clothing franchise shows a top designer painting her son’s toenails neon pink — and it has parents and doctors outraged! What’s your take?

A glimpse of this new J.Crew ad entitled “Saturday with Jenna,” featuring J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons and her 5-year-old son Beckett, has kicked off a fierce debate. The image was emailed to customers highlights some of Jenna’s favorite products, including the hot pink Essie nail polish she is applying to her son’s toenails. It has sparked discussion over gender identity in children, but what do you think of it?

“Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink,” Jenna writes in the ad, “Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.”

A number of psychatrists have slammed the ad, saying it “celebrates transgendered identity,” but Jo B. Paoletti, author of “Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls From the Boys in America” fires back at critics saying, “Lots of kids, say seven and under, might ask their parents for something that would seem to be cross gender, and I think most parents, especially in the privacy of their own home might think, what’s the big deal?”

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale‘s boys, Kingston, 4, and Zuma, 2, have been seen out and about with painted nails and have even been photographed getting mani/pedis. So what’s the big deal? “There’s no reason to hurry the gender-role process along,” child psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere tells HollyBaby.com. “It only creates confusion in the child’s mind and adds unnecessary pressure at a young age.”

But, some people are not fans of boys painting their nails, pink or not.

“This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity,” psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow writes in a FoxNews.com health column. And the Media Research Center’s Erin Brown adds, “J.Crew, known for its tasteful and modest clothing, apparently does not mind exploiting Beckett behind the facade of liberal, transgendered identity politics.”
