Michelle Obama, 49, donned a shimmering Naeem Khan gown at the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Feb. 24. The fashion icon definitely stole the spotlight in the elegant piece, but  Iranian news agency Fars News certainly thought otherwise. Michelle’s picture was featured in various Oscars stories around the globe, but we were shocked to see that Fars News showed her wearing a totally different dress than she actually wore — one that didn’t even really exist.

Michelle’s dress featured glam silver straps that showed off her toned arms and a tasteful, angular neckline. But clearly, it wasn’t quite tasteful enough for Fars News. They Photoshopped the leading lady wearing a similar silver dress, but they added their own short sleeves and altered the neckline so that it came up way higher around her neck. While we thought it was kind of nervy to mess with the leading lady’s errorless style, U.S. officials say it’s totally common for the Iranian media to alter looks in order to make them appropriate for Iranian audiences.

Furthermore, the Iranian public was not happy with the film Argo produced by the Zionist company Warner Bros, for which Michelle presented the Best Picture Award, claiming it was an outright anti-Iranian film. All in all, it looks like they could’ve done without that entire portion of the evening.

The First Lady is probably used to the media changing the truth, but it’s not every day that they change your entire outfit! We think Michelle looked gorgeous and totally appropriate at the event, but what do you guys think? Was Fars News right for covering Michelle up a bit, or was it downright weird? Michelle Obama, 49, was all smiles when she attended the National Prayer Service prayer at the Washington National Cathedral on Jan. 22 in Washington, D.C., where the fashionable First Lady donned a custom ivory wool-applique Naeem Khan 3/4 sleeve coat and matching sleeveless dress. The printed dress featured an embellished collar, while the jacket had the same embellished beadwork on the trim of the jacket and the sleeves. The print gave the ensemble a casual vibe, and Michelle looked effortlessly chic. If she was lacking sleep it certainly didn’t show!

Michelle swapped her glamorous, custom-made red Jason Wu halter gown for a more casual look this morning, yet she always dresses to impress! How does she do it? While for the Inauguration Day Michelle wore her hair down, today she swept her bob back. A pair of earrings finished off her polished look.

I commend Michelle for always dressing so appropriate for every occasion — I can’t imagine what went into selecting all of her looks for this celebratory time! Seeing the First Lady in Naeem Khan comes as no surprise. Not only is Michelle a major fan of the designer’s dresses, but this is also the eighth time she selected one of his designs — with the first being at the administration’s first State Dinner in November 2009.

So far Michelle has showed off red, white and blue — what a patriotic message! Michelle kicked off a very stylish Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 in a navy checkered Thom Browne coat and a custom-made gray dress. Michelle added a pop of color to her ensemble, pairing her first look with purple J. Crew gloves and an embellished J. Crew belt. The First Lady had a very busy day, but she managed to pull a frock swap and stepped out for the Inaugural Ball in a stunning red halter Jason Wu gown.

While reports claim that Michelle danced the night away and really got into the festive spirit for the star-studded afterparty at the White House, she still managed to look fantastic this morning for church services in her custom-made Naeem Khan ensemble.

Naeem Khan is a staple on the red carpet — and it won’t be long before we see more of the Spring 2013 collection on a slew of our favorite stars! The designer is known for his gorgeous evening attire, and we got a whole lot more of it this season. We already saw one of the gorgeous ball gowns on Leslie Mann at the 2012 Emmy Awards, and I think the collection is sure to draw in more stars!

The Moroccan-inspired collection wasn’t strictly about gorgeous gowns, there was also daywear and separates. From shift dresses and coats to strapless dresses and satin pants, we saw waves and sunset prints, leather appliques and rose prints, all which brought a nice twist on the timeless silhouettes.

The show ended with gowns fit for the red carpet, with large skirts and intricate embroidery that was just calling for a moment in the spotlight. My personal favorite was an embroidered marigold gown.

Julianne Hough, Jordana Brewster and Jenna Dewan Tatum all took in the show from the front row.

From the conservative necklines to the sleeveless silhouettes, I can definitely see First Lady and fan of the designer Michelle Obama working the looks on multiple occasions. I also think the Spring 2013 collection would look lovely on Emily Blunt.

Being a fashionable First Lady has its perks!

While we all were taken away by Michelle Obama’s Naeem Khan gown at the state dinner on Nov. 24- we also couldn’t stop staring at her earrings! They were a one-of-a-kind creation from Bochic- a jewelry line designed by Miriam Salat and David Arron Joseph. This was the first time Michelle wore Bochic, so you could only imagine how exciting it was for the designers! Can you imagine seeing the First Lady in something you designed?!

Miriam told us when Michelle’s stylist picked up the pieces she said they were for a very VIP person…but they had no idea it was for Michelle! “We didn’t really know until we were watching the news, we were completely blown away, we’re so honored to have someone we respect so much wearing our jewelry,” Miriam shared.

She also spilled on the First Lady’s relatable fashion sense: “She really knows casual elegance…I love the fact that the night before she was wearing a J. Crew cardigan.”
We agree! Oh, if only we could raid her closet…

You look possibly the most stunning ever in your glammy beige, gold gown at a state dinner for the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, and his wife Gursharan Kaur. Apparently it’s your first state dinner so this is a big deal to go along with a big deal dress.

You’re so thoughtful and shall we say — political — you chose a dress designed by an Indian-American designer, Naeem Khan.

The Huffington Post reports that the celeb quotient was super-high: Katie Couric, Oprah BFF Gayle King, director M. Night Shyamalan, Katie Couric, Alfre Woodard, Blair Underwood, and singer Jennifer Hudson, who sang for her dinner.

The dinner menu was specifically tailored to cater to the guest of honor, Prime Minister Singh, who is a vegetarian. The offerings included potato and eggplant salad, arugula from the White House garden, red lentil soup and roasted potato dumplings or green curry prawns. Pumpkin pie tart — hey, it’s almost Thanksgiving! — and pear tatin for dessert, with the pears poached in honey from the White House beehive!

HuffPo also points out that Attorney General Eric Holder “patted his pocket as he arrived and said his kids had prepped him with all sorts of questions for tablemate Steven Spielberg.” And the wardrobe malfunction of the evening came courtesy of Sen. Bob Casey, whose cummerbund fell off just as he and his wife were about to pose for photogs.
