Nicki Minaj didn’t hesitate to reveal how she really felt the moment M.I.A. flipped the bird during their Super Bowl performance on Feb. 5.

“My first feeling was disappointment, only because of my respect for Madonna. I’m a cuckoo lady too, but I would never be able to do it off the strength of Madonna,” Nicki told Ryan Seacrest’s on Feb. 13 via Rap-up. “There are fines that go into these things, and I just thought, ‘Oh my God. I hope they don’t penalize Madonna.’ Madonna knows the artist that M.I.A. is and it was her decision to take the risk with all of us.”

It’s refreshing to hear that even though Nicki is a wild child — she still would never have done something like M.I.A. did to embarrass Madonna!

It’s not a great time to be M.I.A. The rapper — who made national headlines when she gave the middle finger during her Super Bowl halftime performance — has split from longtime fiancé Benjamin Bronfman, reports Gatecrasher, adding that she also “sometimes goes six weeks without seeing” their son, 3-year-old Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman.

The source says the couple is basically living separate lives. M.I.A., 36, spends the majority of her time in London, while Benjamin, 29, and Ikhyd are in New York City. Fortunately, the source adds, Benjamin’s mom Sherry Bronfman is helping him take care of Ikhyd.

Did Madonna even perform during the Super Bowl halftime show? We can’t remember, because all anyone cares about how is that M.I.A. whipped out her middle finger during “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” Though the rapper has yet to release an official statement about the incident, the UK’s Daily Mail credits a member of M.I.A.’s team as saying it was just “a case of adrenaline and nerves. She wasn’t thinking. It wasn’t any kind of statement. She was caught in the moment and she’s incredibly sorry.”

Meanwhile, both NBC and the NFL has already profusely apologized for the incident — simultaneously blaming each other for the slip.

“There was a failure in NBC’s delay system,” says NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy. “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”

NBC’s response?

“The NFL hired the talent and produced the half-time show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”

HollywoodLife.com also spoke to a top entertainment attorney who tells us that the Federal Communications Commission will ‘definitely’ fine NBC for the lewd gesture and the network could try to get M.I.A. to pay it!

M.I.A. has gotten herself into quite a mess. HollywoodLife.com reached out to Madonna‘s rep following M.I.A.’s shocking display at the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 and it sounds like the Material Girl was just as surprised as NBC, the NFL, and families at home were with M.I.A’s behavior.

“It was not rehearsed or planned,” says Madonna’s rep. “No comment from Madonna.”

Additionally, Spokesman Brian McCarthy said M.I.A. did not do anything similar during rehearsals.

It’s being reported that M.I.A. may have to pay whatever fine the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] decides to slap on NBC for the incident and a top entertainment attorney tells HollywoodLife.com that could definitely happen.

“It’s a matter of contract between M.I.A. and NBC,” says entertainment attorney and author of The Future of the Music Business Steve Gordon. “Her contract may be with the NFL or NBC. Either way she had to have signed some sort of piece of paper, some sort of agreement. If it was with NBC, they would have loaded it up with indecency clauses then NBC would have a claim against MIA.”

Steve went on to say that it’s unlikely that the FCC would go after M.I.A. directly. For instance, when Janet Jackson flashed her boob during the 2004 halftime show, the FCC went after CBS and fined them for $550,000. The case went back and forth between the Supreme Court and The United States Court of Appeals for years before it was thrown out this past November.

“Each case is different but NBC may try to persuade her to pay it without going to court,” Steve tells HollywoodLife.com. “Or say you pay half.”

But if M.I.A. has to pay even part of a hefty fine, don’t feel too badly for the singer! M.I.A. is actually engaged to Benjamin Bronfman, the heir to the Seagram Company. Benjamin was the CEO in 1994 and in 2000 the company was sold and the family’s networth was reported to be $2.9 billion.

We’ve reach out to M.I.A.’s rep and have yet to hear back.

Just who do you think you are MIA?  And why did you think it was cool to give the finger to Americans watching the Super Bowl halftime show?

It’s not cool — it’s rude. And in the context of where you were and what you were doing — in front of 111.3 million people — it was just plain disrespectful.

Disrespectful to the audience watching the show — including many children — and disrespectful to Madonna, 53, whose thunder it appeared you were trying to steal!

You were so fortunate to have been asked by Madonna to be featured in her new hit single, “Give Me All Your Luvin,” and then to appear in her Super Bowl performance.

Now, I know that you gave the finger in the official video for the song with Madonna, and I guess she was cool with that. But that was one finger that should have been omitted from the live Super Bowl appearance.

You may be a star on the rise, but this finger episode just makes you look like an attention-hog, not a hot talent!

Some of the biggest names in music are coming together Feb. 5 to make sure Super Bowl XLVI is the hottest one yet — at least during halftime. Madonna will lead the festivities at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium, joined by LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and Cee-Lo Green for various performances throughout her set. Read on for a complete rundown of what you can expect mid-way through the game.

Madonna:

The queen of pop is this year’s main attraction, and will present her new single “Give Me All Your Livin,” plus classics like “Vogue,” “Music” and “Like A Prayer.”

LMFAO:

Madonna will get a little help from the boys of LMFAO on “Music.” Madonna might need to step up her wardrobe; those guys are known for some pretty ridiculous outfits!

Nicki Minaj:

The hip-hop phenom will join Madonna for “Give Me All Your Lovin.” (Let’s hope Nicki doesn’t repeat her Good Morning America fiasco, or else we’ll have another “Nipplegate” on our hands!)

M.I.A.:

The controversial rapper will also be by Madonna’s side during “Give Me All Your Lovin.”

Cee-Lo Green:

The Voice judge Cee-Lo will help Madonna close out her halftime set, joining her for a performance of “Like A Prayer.”

Along with the huge names listed above, viewers can also expect to see appearances from members of Cirque du Soleil, as well as the drumlines from Avon High School, Center Grove High School, Fishers High School, and Franklin Central High School.

It’s a big week for Madonna. Not only is she headlining the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 5, but her new single “Give Me All Your Luvin” is rolling out on radio stations worldwide. Ryan Seacrest premiered the dance track early on Feb. 3, ahead of the much-anticipated March release of Madge’s 12th studio album MDNA. “Let’s forget about time, and dance our lives away,” she sings in the chorus.

The single features rappers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj, who appear in the song’s football-themed music video clad in cheerleading uniforms. (Madonna is the Queen of Marketing, after all!)

The Queen of Pop will perform “Luvin,” as well as three other tunes, on Super Bowl Sunday. Both Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. are expected to join Madonna on stage.
