Although Kim Kardashian attended the Met Gala in NYC on May 6 for the first time on the arm of her boyfriend, Kanye West, she was the only Kardashian to grace the red carpet — and a new report claims that’s exactly how Anna Wintour wanted it!

Kris Jenner Banned From Met Gala?

Radar allegedly reports that mama Kardashian, Kris Jenner, enquired about attending the a-list event. While the momager was also in NYC on the evening of the grand gala she was absent from the red carpet — and the site reports Vogue‘s editor-in-chief was behind the move, claiming she said, “One Kardashian is enough!”

The source went on to say: “Anna approves every star who enters and although she finally relented on Kim, she drew the line at Kris, who was desperate to attend.”

While the evening is full of some of the hottest stars in Hollywood, it’s also one of the most exclusive red carpets around! The source claims, “Anna wants a parade of stars at the gala, not a parade of reality stars!”

Although Kris was absent from the red carpet, she wasn’t the only one. Even a-list actresses can miss out on the chance of attending if they aren’t invited by a specific designer.

Anna Wintour Accepts Kim Kardashian:

While Kim and Kanye walked the red carpet at this year’s grand event and even dined at the home of the editor-in-chief the weekend before the Met Gala, when the rapper attended the 2012 gala he walked the red carpet alone. It was rumored that the editor-in-chief was against having Kim on the red carpet.

The theme of the gala was “Punk: Chaos to Couture.” Genevieve Herr, makeup artist for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, worked hard to give Katie an edgy, modern glam look!

“Katie’s MET Gala makeup was a departure from her natural look. We took the traditional punk look of black eyes and white lips and modernized it by combining metallic cream shadow with black liner and lots of black mascara to create a winged smoked out eye. We finished the look with a bit of pale pink blush and a beige lip. Pretty in Punk,” Genevieve told HollywoodLife.com.

For the super smokey look, she used Bobbi Brown’s Dark Brow Kit, Golden Bronze Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick on lids, Caviar Eye Shadow as a liner, Jet Long-Wear Eye Pencil as a liner pencil and Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara.

Kim definitely made a statement when she stepped out in the form-fitting, long-sleeved floral frock — and as soon as she did, people started comparing her to curtains and couches! While it proved to be the most controversial look of the night, a source tells UsWeekly that Kim could care less because she was so pleased with her Met Gala get-up.

“She loved the dress just the way Ricardo designed it for her,” the source says. “His vision for her was a romantic Spanish theme with touches of boldness and punk.”

From the matching shoes to the gloves, the printed look had a lot going on — and it was all a part of Riccardo’s vision. “He worked with Kim, no stylist,” another insider tells the mag. “Just him styling and creating.”

Riccardo Tisci Defends Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala Dress:

Kim wasn’t the only one who loved the look! The designer behind the dress gushed over the way the star looked in his custom-made creation. “She is a really good friend, and I am very happy she came to the Met for the first time. I love Kim. Doing maternity was fantastic. I wanted to have a Kim Kardashian moment, because Kim always supports me. She is the future wife of a really good friend of mine. I wanted to have a moment of family…Kim, Kanye and the baby. It will be a family that I will be close to. Kim said, ‘Ricky, I love what you’re doing so much, I am in your hands.’ I said, we should give her our punk moment with a romantic beautiful flower-printed dress. I have dressed many pregnant women in the past. People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers. I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career,” he tells WWD.

So Riccardo and Kim are standing by the dress, (even if they’re the only ones). There’s no denying the fact that it was a controversial choice but we think it’s cool that they’re so passionate about it. What do you think?

Beau Nelson created the look for Kristen using Chanel products.

“I wanted to create a dark punk shape to the eye, but give it some edgy elegance by working in reds, burgundies and blacks. The look came together beautifully with the deep burgundy jumpsuit Kristen wore,” Beau told HollywoodLife.com.

“To get her look, I started by massaging CHANEL Sublimage La Crème Texture Fine into the face and gently patted Sublimage La Creme Yeux under the eyes for hydration. I applied CHANEL Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 15 in 22 Beige Rose to the center of the face working outwards in small circular motions, buffing the product into the skin. Then, I used a concealer where needed to cover redness and brighten the under eye area.”

“I contoured the face with CHANEL Powder Blush in Plum Attraction under the cheekbones and used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine Baume on the tops of cheekbones for a radiant dewy shine.”

“On her eyes I used CHANEL Precision Lip Definer in Framboise as a creme shadow to define the shape and create a strong red base to apply the shadow to. I then used a mix of CHANEL Powder Blush in Pink Explosion, the burgundy shadows from CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Eclosion and the grey shadow from CHANEL Eyeshadow Duo in Misty-Soft to smoke up the eye, then lined the inner rim with a black pencil.”

“I used CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel on her brows. I curled the lashes and applied CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir to both top and bottom lashes.”

Adir Abergel styled Kristen’s deep-sided slicked back coif and was inspired by the 1990’s androgynous movement. Here’s how to get the look:

“First start by applying a Kusco Murphy Volumizer all over the roots on towel-dried hair. Then create a deep side part by following the highest part of your eyebrow arch. Follow by rough drying your hair completely and then take the top section of the hair and blow-dry it smooth with a round brush — Adir loves Ibiza boar bristle brushes. Once you are done smoothing the hair, take a Mason Pearson brush and slick both sides of the hair back into a low knot at the base of your head. Once the sides are slicked back and in a knot, then take the remaining top section of the hair — leaving some height in the front — and slick it back around the existing knot to complete the look. Use Fekkai Sheer hold for all night hold. Secure with a few bobby pins and hairpins.”

Much like her alterego, Carrie Bradshaw, she managed to pull off the high-fashion accessory flawlessly and made it look effortlessly chic. Ashley Greene At The Met Ball Makeup — Gorgeous Smokey Eyes

Celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali created the punk rock look for mark Brand Ambassador Ashley.

To complement her Marchesa gown, she went with bold, dark eyes and a nude lip. Get her exact step by step below:

“I started by prepping Ashley’s skin with mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant Skin Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30. I used my fingers to apply (by patting) concealer under the eyes. Then I applied mark Just Pinched in Nude onto her cheeks to add subtle warmth to her skin (Ashley just returned from a trip, so her skin is already sun-kissed and golden). I added mark Glowdacious Illiuminating Powder on the peak of her cheekbones. I set the look with mark Matte-Nificent Oil-Absorbing Powder.”

“I layered Ashley’s eyes with color by starting with the dark shade from mark Keep it Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Entourage. I applied it from the base of the lash up past the natural crease and out past the natural corner of the eye. This gave me depth to work with and established the shade for the eye. Then, I used the purple and taupe shades from mark On the Dot Bold Eye Color Compact to add color to the center of the eye and softness to the edges. I added a mix of the three colors under her bottom lashes. For extra intensity, I used mark No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Jet Set and smudged it into the shadow. I applied mark Color Me in Eye Crayon in Go Gold inside the waterline of her eye and added a touch of highlighter to the brown bone. I added the final touch to her eyes by applying a few layers of mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black.”

“To finish Ashley’s look, I gave her a soft, satin nude lip by using Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park. I complemented her brows’ shape by applying Nars Eyebrow Pencil in Jodhpur.”

Hairstylist extraordinaire Ted Gibson told HollywoodLife.com about the inspiration behind the look:

“This was a really fun hair moment for Ashley Greene. We opted for half up/half down look with a coif in the front. I am calling it young punk chic!

“To get this look for her, I used Build It Blowdrying Agent and Fix It Gel for amazing texture and a roughed up feeling. I used my fingers and hands to blowdry — not a brush — so that it had that rockabilly flair. After the hair was dry, I took a section of hair, twisted it into a coif in the front, then pinned it towards the back of the head. Then, I took the sides back and sprayed with Beautiful Hold Hairspray.”

The red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6 celebrated the opening of PUNK: Chaos to Couture in NYC and it was crowded with a slew of interesting get-ups that stayed true to the theme of the evening. While everyone associates gorgeous glamour with the Met Gala, I don’t think anyone expected to see the so many stars in attendance really unleash their inner-punk side — but they definitely did!

Met Gala Fashion:

Miley Cyrus spiked up her short blonde ‘do and paired her hair with a Marc Jacobs gown that totally channeled the vibe. While some can’t decide whether or not they love or loathe her get-up, I think it’s cool that she took a chance and stayed true to the theme.

Madonna definitely went over the top, wearing custom-made Givenchy that almost looked like a costume! She clearly was having the most fun of the night.

Personally, I think Sarah Jessica Parker rocked the punk vibe best in her elaborate Gilse Deacon gown and Philip Treacy couture hat. The 48-year-old managed to stay consistent with the theme in a way that was still so glamorous and chic. Fred Leighton and Repossi jewels and a Giles Deacon bag tied her Met Gala get-up together.
