Matt White was thrilled when Bachelorette couple Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum’s asked him to perform at their wedding on Dec. 1, which aired on ABC on Dec. 16.Read HollywoodLife‘s EXCLUSIVE interview with Matt below, where he talks about his favorite moment — the cake cutting!

Tell us about performing at J.P. & Ashley’s wedding!

It was definitely an experience that I was happy to be a part of! The Bachelorette/Bachelor franchise has such a huge fan following, a lot bigger than I ever realized until I became part of it. It was fun to see all the fans who caught word of where the wedding was going to be and the crowd that gathered around the venue to catch a glimpse of J.P. and Ashley.

The security seemed as tight as the White House and the wedding was beautiful! Of course, it was filmed for TV so there were camera crews everywhere.

Did they contact you to play?

Yes, they wanted my song “Love” to be their first dance song so ABC contacted me about the right to have someone cover it. Instead, I volunteered to sing the song for them in person and be part of their big day!

What was your favorite moment from their wedding?

During the cake cutting ceremony, I was playing my new single “Love & Affection” and that was when it really showed me how much they are in love. It amazed me that they found love on TV — good for them!

Did you get to interact with any other guests? 

I did meet Emily [Maynard] in the elevator.

What are some of your favorite most romantic songs of all time?

“Something In The Way” — The Beatles

Tell us about your new EP “Love Songs”!

Love Songs is an acoustic set of 5 songs that I know my fans love. I have my new single “Love & Affection” on the EP. It will be hitting the radio next month and will be on my new album coming out in April 2013!

• My dream girl would be someone creative, and definitely someone who loves to laugh. I’m also a huge homebody and love to watch reality shows, so that would help. I was born in Jersey and love the Jersey Shore, as well as the Real Housewives series.

• My friend John Mayer is an amazing musician, I think Continuum is one of the best albums in the last 20 years. He lives his life the way he wants to live it, but he lives in a fish bowl so everything he does is seen. I’m sure there are many things everyone does, that no one would want seen.

• This album sort of takes a comical approach to the ups and downs of relationships. I have songs about therapy, and songs about the “honeymoon phase of relationships.” One of my favorite songs is “When I Fall.” There is also a song called “Sunshine,” which was when I was dropped from my previous record label — it is like getting fired, it SUCKS. But you pick yourself up and keep on moving.

• I think Justin Bieber is an incredible talent. He is a multi-inturmentalist. I would love to write with him or for him or whatever. He and I are similar in that we both would sing for whomever, wherever.

• I would love to meet Natalie Portman — I think she is an incredible actress, and has done so many different kinds of roles. Aside from that, she is incredibly smart and genuine with all her causes.

• I have a lot of strange habits. Sometimes I walk around the streets of New York singing to myself in a very low voice and people often stare at me like I belong locked up. NYC has this rapid fire kind of vibe — cabs drive fast, and people walk fast, so it is a good place to be creative.
