Less than two years after actor Heath Ledger and his then-girlfriend Michelle Williams welcomed their daughter Matilda, Heath tragically died in an accidental drug overdose. Now, the late actor’s parents are speaking out about their granddaughter — and how much she’s like her dad.

There’s no doubt that Matilda, 7, is the spitting image of her father, but Heath’s parents, Sally and Kim Ledger, say she has a lot of his personality as well.

“Matilda is indeed very much like her dad — she has long limbs and similar features,” Sally told Australian magazine New Idea. But Heath’s mom also said she resembles her mom too in the best ways.

“However, she also possesses the beauty of her mamma — lucky girl,” Sally revealed.

Heath Ledger’s Parents Open About Their Relationship With Matilda

Even though Heath and Michelle were broken up at the time of his tragic death, his parents revealed they have always maintained a loving and respectful relationship with Michelle, and especially their granddaughter.

“Matilda has the same walk as Heath and is such a respectful little kid – she calls us ‘Papa’ and ‘Grandma Sal,” her grandpa Kim said. “Our family has the most wonderful relationship with both Matilda and Michelle.  We talk frequently and visit as often as we can.”

Matilda Ledger is six years old and as she grows up it’s hard not to notice how much she resembles her father, Heath Ledger. Matilda and her mother Michelle Williams suffered a tragedy when Heath passed away, but luckily Matilda is still a happy little girl.

Matilda has been seen out various times with Jason Segel recently, and they even hold hands when they walk together!

Michelle Williams suffered an unimaginable loss when her daughter’s father Heath Ledger tragically passed away in 2008. She originally wanted their daughter Matilda Ledger, 6, to have close siblings, but as time went on, that possibility seemed further and further out of her reach.

“I really wanted, and I really expected or imagined, that Matilda would have siblings that were close to her age,” Michelle told People.

Michelle, 31, has moved on since Heath’s death, and is currently dating actor Jason Segal, who was recently spotted holding hands with Matilda. Although their relationship seems to be getting pretty serious, having more children is far from Michelle’s mind.

“I couldn’t make that happen,” the actress revealed. “And now that she’s six, that isn’t even a possibility anymore.”

Michelle Williams took home the Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) award at the Golden Globes, and she says it’s all because of her adorable six-year-old Matilda Ledger. “None of this would be possible if it weren’t for my baby daughter,” Michelle revealed to HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “I owe everything to to her. She is the reason I live, breathe and eat!”

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Michelle credited Matilda for winning the coveted Best Actress award.

“I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life,” Michelle said.

The 31-year-old My Week With Marilyn star revealed that she read bedtime stories to Matilda in her Marilyn Monroe voice!

“I want to say thank you for sending me off to this job every day with a hug and a kiss,” Michelle gushed. “I couldn’t have done it any other way. It made me so excited to come home at night. And for suffering for six months of bedtime stories, where all the princesses were read aloud in a Marilyn Monroe-sounding voice.”

The My Week with Marilyn star Michelle Williams will definitely be making some spectacular fashion choices during the award show circuit, but is her daughter Matilda the one to credit? “No, this is a very adult world, and I like to keep her in a kid world, so I keep the two very separate,” she told HollyBaby.com at the Forevermark and InStyle Golden Globes Event at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Jan. 10.

Even though the six-year-old isn’t playing stylist for her mom, Michelle is sure to get some nods for her work.

We’ve seen Michelle in a variety of roles, but her most important role is as Matilda’s supportive mommy!

Michelle Williams has gone from appearing in teen drama Dawson’s Creek to starring as Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming film My Week With Marilyn. “I was just an actor who happened to be lucky enough to be in the right place, and it was the place where I met Matilda’s father, and that is a lot,” Michelle tells Angeleno magazine of Brokeback Mountain. “And it will be a lot for Matilda too, when she gets around to watching it. I will watch it with her, when she’s ready,” she adds of the film. “It is hard to imagine what that would feel like, but one day, yes, we will watch it together.”
