Hilary Duff, 23, who recently announced that she’s expecting her first baby with Mike Comrie, rocked a pair of leather trousers, a flowy top and pink platform heels on Sept. 5 and the look was very similar to what Victoria Beckham sported during her pregnancy with Harper Seven! Do you think Hilary will be the next fashionista mom-to-be?

“I refuse to accept that I have to change my look when I’m pregnant,” Posh confessed when she was expecting. And obviously, Hilary feels the same — she’s still adorably fashionable and chic!

Hilary has been donning some very trendy looks in the last few weeks, including short shorts, belts, maxi dresses, leggings and embellished tops. But will she ever be able to top the uber-stylish and sexy Posh? VOTE!

I’m still sloooowly easing my way into pregnancy wear! Read on to find out more about my chic maternity picks!

I was fortunate enough not to have been plagued by morning sickness, but on the flip side, I gained weight pretty early on in my pregnancy. And even though I was no longer a virgin to maternity clothes, I was still initially in denial. I placed blame on the dryer and the dry cleaners. (Eek!) But, I began to further edit my closet and put away my “shrunken” items and continue on my search for my new wardrobe.

For jeans, I headed to H&M Mama, though Gap Maternity is another good choice. I chose H&M Mama because they had more of a style, wash, and color choice—plus the price point was nearly half that of Gap Maternity jeans!

Though a little apprehensive at first, Old Navy Maternity had great 100% cotton T-shirts, tank tops and camisoles, perfect for layering under sweaters or just to wear on their own during the spring. With the fantastic prices, I bought two of every style in white, gray, and black.

Asos Maternity online is another great resource for trendy pieces (and free shipping!) and I purchased a handful of flirty frocks and fun dresses at wallet friendly prices. I thought the line Isabella Oliver Maternity (found online) has a great selection of incredibly stylish and fashionable pieces. Though a bit more pricey, their styles are perfect for more special occasions.

And of course, I had to make my usual trip to Bergdorf Goodman, my favorite NYC department store, for some flowy tops, long cardigans, and sweater dresses. These items from Bergdorfs would remain in my closet long after the baby was born and added some flair and style to my already purchased staples.

Though many techniques have been used on clothing as a woman transitions from their regular wardrobe to maternity clothes, despite all that resistance, I was happy, content, and finally comfortable in my new pair of maternity jeans!

Maternity wear is so dowdy! But it’s about that time to choose practicality over Prada, so I am ready to take my first plunge into shopping for pregnancy fashion!

After my zipper debacle on the red carpet, I decided not to use Macgyver-like strategies of safety pins and rubber bands to prolong the use of my pre-pregnancy designer wardrobe. It was time….time to see what maternity clothes had to offer.

I must admit that I approached the idea slowly, as I found that they were just, well, matronly. And in addition to their unflattering styles and colors, they were more expensive than I originally imagined, considering the amount of time they were actually going to be on my body. I was determined to find something that worked with my style and taste, and maintain a sense of me!

Treading slowly, my first stop was Destination Maternity, where I must say, I had a wonderful experience. It was a huge change from the usual snooty salesperson that only looked up from the register and acknowledged my existence when I held the $1,500 dress in my hand.  The salespeople at Destination Maternity were friendly and really catered to the needs of pregnant women.

When I first arrived, I was offered juice or water, and asked if I would like to put my bags behind the counter to make my shopping experience a bit more comfortable. Not only was there a huge selection of clothing at three different price points, they also housed a spa and offered prenatal classes. One-stop shopping!

Though the clothes were not particularly my taste, I did purchase many pairs of leggings and velour pants in every color, and a few tunic tops. In addition, I also snagged a few bra extenders, which have become a maternity must-have in my book. I’m still determined to be pregna-chic! We’ll see how it goes…

Getting dressed during the time between when you find out you’re pregnant, until the time when you actually announce you’re pregnant is tricky!

As I got ready for a night out with my husband to attend a Diesel event at a downtown hotspot in NYC, I had to cleverly come up with an outfit that (1) I could actually fit into (2) kept things discreetly hidden and (3) I felt good in. In retrospect, I did not choose wisely.

At the time, I put on a pair of zippered jeggings and a vintage kimono type top.  As I sat in the cab heading from the Upper East side to downtown, I could feel the tightness of my jeans creeping up on me, cutting into my bloated mid section.  I thought, “OMG….am I hurting the baby?” and without thinking I unzipped my poor choice of an outfit for immediate relief.  Ahhhhhh…Now I feel comfortable.

As we approached the venue, I did my usual checklist before I exited the cab.  Lipgloss on….check. Blackberry…check.  Wallet…..check.  Husband….check.  As I walked into the event, I got wisked away for photographs and as I posed and smiled, I thought, “I can’t believe I pulled this off!” And as I was thinking, it dawned on me ….zipper up….uncheck!!!  OH NO!!  I just stood for pictures completely unaware that my fly was undone!!

Luckily, I was wearing a long tank that covered up 90% of my unzippered fly, so my initial embarrassment was mitigated by the fact that know one will know….until now. (See picture)  So with that lesson learned, I figured it was now time to embark on the journey for shopping for maternity clothes.

I never expected to see the super petite stylist in maternity clothing, but it looks like the day has finally come!

While out shopping in LA on Jan. 23, mom-to-be Rachel Zoe managed to look as stylish as ever in bell-bottoms, her signature oversized shades, a hat, and a chain link tote. Even though you can hardly tell she’s pregnant, she’s definitely adapting well — she’s even wearing maternity jeans!

The stylist’s bell bottoms might have looked like her usual pair of denim, but she was actually wearing a pair of Mama J by J Brand ‘love story’ maternity bell bottoms ($195). I don’t know about you, but I never thought the day would come — although she still manages to look as chic as ever! I love how her pregnancy style is so consistent with her personal style.

Being pregnant surely isn’t a picnic — but just because your shape is constantly changing doesn’t mean you can’t stay chic! Just look at Claudia Schiffer — the mom to be showed up at the Chanel couture show during Paris Fashion Week on Jan. 26 looking totally put together in a yellow Chanel tunic! Okay, so maybe she isn’t that far along in her pregnancy, but while Amy Adams looks like she’s ready to pop, she always looks adorable while out promoting her new flick Leap Year! It looks like Rebecca Gayheart and Amanda Peet could learn a thing or two from Amy and Claudia about the best way to dress your bump. While Amy and Claudia stick to simple silhouettes and solid colors, Rebecca and Amanda have committed two major no-nos — not only do they wear horizontal stripes, but their baggy shirts and layers just look schlubby! And Amanda, what were you thinking with your leopard coat? I understand you want to keep your look trendy, but animal prints and baby bumps don’t match in my book! Who do you think had the best mom to be look?
